HP Launches New Mini 1000 Netbook Line
Hewlett Packard has expanded its line of Atom-powered netbook offerings with the new Mini 1000, a sleek new nettop that weights less than two pounds, is less than an inch thick, and should appeal both to folks who can’t bear to be offline as well as fashion-conscious women.
“Staying connected to your world—however you define it—is increasingly important to people on the go,” said senior VP and general manager for HP’s global notebook unit Ted Clark, in a statement. HP Unveils 20.1-Inch Dragon Notebook
Not content to let computer maker Dell steal all the thunder with notebook computers which severely strain the definition of “portability” and “laptop,” Hewlett-Packard today announced its Series Entertainment Notebook PC, dubbed “the Dragon,” along with a selection of Pavilion and Compaq Presario notebook offerings based on Intel’s new Centrino Pro platform. The Pavilion HDX might be best described as a desktop replacement rather than a notebook computer system, because it definitely abandons the concepts of “slim” and “lightweight” in favor of “big,” “powerful,” and “multimedia.”
HP Showcases New Notebook Lines
Hewlett Packard today introduced two new notebook series which both feature the latest Intel Core Duo processor technology for boosted mobile performance. The HP Compaq nx9400 Notebook PC series should have a starting price of $1,499 when it becomes available later this month, while the HP Compaq 6300 Notebook PC series will start at $1,049 when it becomes available in early April.
The HP Compaq nx9400 Notebook PC series, said HP, features a 17-inch widescreen display, Intel Core Duo processor and 3D graphics. In addition, the nx9400 is 35 percent thinner and 17 percent lighter than current HP desktop replacement notebooks. It also delivers up to four hours of battery life, which represents up to 129 percent more battery life over previous HP 17-inch notebooks.
HP Debuts New iPAQ Handheld
Hewlett Packard said today they were launching a new HP iPAQ handheld known as the HP iPAQ hw6900 Mobile Messenger. Set to debut in the late spring, pricing and availability in world markets will depend upon specific wireless carriers.

HP Reclaims No.1 Notebook Spot
HP’s unit shipments for the notebook segment worldwide grew nearly 21 percent quarter over quarter, almost 1.4 times the industry growth rate, according to the analyst firm’s fourth quarter analysis. Additionally, the company’s quarter-over-quarter growth rate was more than five times its nearest competitor’s.
“HP enters what it has declared the ‘Year for Mobility’ by leading the market in this high-growth segment while also increasing profitability,” said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager, Mobile Computing, HP. “The market has confirmed HP as the mobile vendor of choice, and these results further reinforce our place in and commitment to the notebook business.”
