Major ticket broker TicketMaster has announced a definitive agreement to acquire popular online ticket reseller TicketsNow for an undisclosed amount. TicketMaster, a subsidiary of of Barry Diller’s IAC media empire—which also runs search engine Ask.com and online dating service Match.com—will use the acquisition to give it a leg-up in the increasingly competitive ticket resale market. TicketMaster also plans to leverage its relationships with pro sports leagues to bring ticket validation and electronic ticket delivery to the ticket resale market.

Harry Potter Creates Fandango Magic
As fans nationwide begin to line up for midnight showings of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, online movie ticket sales company Fandango announced their latest advanced ticket sales numbers. Like their announcement earlier this month, the latest Harry Potter movie looks to be on its way to setting box office records.
Fandango said that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire had, as of yesterday, accounted for 93 percent of advanced ticket sales. This makes it the fastest selling Potter movie in the company’s history, as well as making it the top-selling film since the summer release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
Siemens To Pilot Phone Based Ticketing
The Vogtland Public Transit Association (Zweckverband Öffentlicher Personennahverkehr Vogtland) has commissioned Siemens Business Services to devise a pilot solution for electronic ticketing. The association expects this model project for a “pocket-sized ticket machineâ€, the first of its kind in Germany, to lead to lower costs, increased revenue and improved customer loyalty. Since passengers in the Vogtland and the so-called EgroNet region frequently cross the border between Germany and the Czech Republic, the European Union is supporting the project to the tune of almost one million euros.
