Original id Software Title In The Works

John Carmack has another bun in the oven. Despite his side project dabbling in space flight, the programming guru will apparently have time to design yet another new game engine for an upcoming id Software project.

The news comes via Todd Hollenshead, id’s CEO, who spoke with GamesIndustry.biz about the upcoming title. Besides the promise of Carmack’s involvement, Hollenshead also noted that the game would be completely original. "We are working on an all-new franchise: it’s not Doom, it’s not Quake, it’s not Wolfenstein, it’s not Enemy Territory, it’s not even Commander Keen,” he told GamesIndustry.

Quake 4 Ships

Activision and id Software, the makers of titles such as Quake and Doom, announced today that the next installment of the legendary first person shooter for the PC is now shipping in two forms: a regular $49.99 version and the a Special DVD Edition for $59.99, which also includes Quake II, the Quake II expansion packs and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.

DOOM RPG Coming To Your Mobile Phone

“DOOM RPG” has been created by id Software specifically for mobile phones, and is based on the popular first person shooter game originally launched in 1994. “DOOM” and its sequels are among the most popular PC games ever, with millions of copies sold. “DOOM RPG” preserves the look, feel and excitement of the original “DOOM” game, while integrating a tactical, turn-based combat system for easy to learn one-handed gaming.

Quake 4 Announced at E3

“QUAKE 4 utilizes the power of our groundbreaking DOOM 3 engine to transport players into a war-torn science-fiction universe graphically realized like never before,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. “We’re excited to bring the next generation experience to a new breed of console game fans.”

Quake 4 will utilize DOOM 3 technology. Expect to see the game available for the PC as well. A release date has not been announced.

DOOM 3 Under Development For Mac

The game is under development for Macintosh by id Software, and will be published by Aspyr Media Inc.
