TomTom Looks to Google to Offer Mid-range Connected GPS Navigation
GPS maker TomTom has announced its latest navigation offering, the TomTom XL 340S Live, a new connected GPS that hooks into the AT&T mobile network and which features local search capabilities powered by Google. The XL 340S Live represents the first time TomTom has brought connected GPS services to the middle range of its product line—and that includes fuel price information, local real-time traffic, and weather.
“With the new TomTom XL 340S LIVE, we are bringing unrivaled quality and truly connected navigation to the mass market,” said TomTom president Jocelyn Vigreux, in a statement. “Now backed by the strength of AT&T’s network, we’re giving drivers the very best foundation on which to enjoy a range of useful, real time services.”
Will the iPhone Kill Standalone GPS Navigators?
The iPhone comes as close as you can get to a universal, do-everything device. It’s as much a personal media player, translator, Internet tablet, notepad, alarm clock and a dozen other things as it is a cell phone. But with the introduction of the very first turn-by-turn GPS apps from companies like TomTom and Navigon, I think we’re finally seeing the miracle device stretched a little thin.
TomTom XXL GPS Units Feature 5-Inch Displays
GPS maker TomTom has just unveiled its new XXL 530X and XX540S GPS navigation units, featuring full maps of the U.S. and Canada, TomTom’s exclusive IQ Routes for finding the quickest and best routes based on historical traffic data—and now, 5-inch widescreen displays so you can practically follow the GPS’s route from the car behind one of these units.
“The new TomTom XXL devices enrich our product portfolio by providing our customers with new offerings that cater to individual preference and need, like the larger, easy-to-read screen” said TomTom president Jocelyn Vigreux, in a statement. “The introduction of the XXL range is in line with our strategy to increase the depth and breadth of our product offerings, based on customer feedback.”
TomTom’s x50 Live GPS Sport IQ Routes, New Interface
At this week’s IFA trade show in Berlin, GPS maker TomTom has introduced its new Go x50 Live series, consisting three new flagship GPS navigation units: The TomTom Go 950 Live, the Go 750 Live, and the Go 550 Live. The units all feature TomTom’s IQ Routes, which uses the the real-world travel experience of million of drivers to calculate the quickest routes between points. The units also sport a revised user interface with a new Live Snapshot feature that puts things like traffic info, fuel prices, and and safety alerts front and center.
