Are you like many others, with a Google Toolbar added on to your browser? If so, you’d better be careful about adding buttons to it. According to a story on TechNewsWorld, a security researcher has found a vulnerability that could allow a hacker to get control of your PC if you add a button.

Google has an API that allows users to create toolbar buttons, with the information stored in an XML file. A user needs to use a link to the XML file to install it.

Yahoo! over the weekend rolled out new enhancements to their Yahoo! Toolbar for IE and Yahoo! Toolbar for Firefox Web browser add-ons. Both toolbars are available for free download from the Web portal’s dedicated site.

Updates for Yahoo! Toolbar for IE version 6.3, announced Yahoo! via their Yahoo! Search blog, include support for tabbed browsing from within Internet Explorer 5 and 6. “When Google first released Toolbar 3 in February, it faced criticism from Webmasters who didn’t like the idea of the search giant altering content, or creating new links, on their sites withouttheir permission. Microsoft had put up a trial balloon in 2001 for a similar feature based called Smart Tags, but dropped the idea after similar heat from users and site creators.
