Video game publisher EA might be facing hard times, but that didn’t prevent it creating a huge splash last weekend at the London Games Festival when the company took over most of the city’s landmark Trafalgar Square for its “Be the One” event. It erected what’s believed to be one of the largest temporary structures ever seen in the tourist attraction to promote its latest titles, including Fifa 09 and Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, along with performances from pop stars.

London Games Festival Starts
The biggest event in the UK gaming calendar got underway yesterday. The London Games Festival 2007, which runs until earlyNovember, is a celebration of gaming and the gaming industry. It will include two days of gaming in the iconic Trafalgar Square, hosted by Electronic Arts, and giving gamers the chance to try outsome of the company’s new and classic titles. One of the more interesting twists is The Soho Project, which organizers say is a “make-your-own reality game online and on thestreets of central London. Sign up for your own Fictional Identity, make a team, perform acts throughout Soho – but remember, like that proverbial tree in the forest, an act only scores if it’sfilmed for points by another team! The winners will feature in a pilot ‘It’s Your Soho!’ shot on 27 October and screened to major media commissioning editors.” Those who can’t attend canwatch on Facebook. In addition to a number of workshops, talks, fringe events and a career fair, one of the highlights will be tonight’s BAFTA GameAwards, which will include a special honour for Will Wright, who created Sim City.
