Acer America—now the parent company of Gateway—has taken the wraps off the TravelMate 6493 and TravelMate 6593 notebook computers, aiming at the mobile business crowd with a mix of performance and flexibility. Both units are built on Intel’s Centrino 2 platfor, and feature 1,280 by 800-pixel LCD displays and Acer’s MediaBay hot-swapping technology that enables users to swap in an optical drive, additional hard drive storage, or an extra battery, depengin on their needs. Both units also come with Acer’s Crystal Eye Web cam and video conferencing software for communications needs, and feature integrated fingerprint readers (which can be tied to application launches) for improved security.

Acer TravelMate 8200 Sports Centrino Duo
Acer has taken the wraps off its TravelMate 8200 notebook aimed at the high-end business and enterprise user, sporting a dual-core Centrino Duo processor at speeds up to 2.16 GHz and built-in voice and video over IP (VVIOP) capabilities.
Acer TravelMate 4020
Acer’s newest notebook the TravelMate 4020 is designed for home office or SOHO use and comes packed with an Intel Centrino chipset, PCI-Express technology (we assume graphics subsystem, although the graphics is integrated) 512MB of RAM (upgradeable to 2GB), a 1.6GHz Pentium M processor, integrated WiFi and Bluetooth and a 60GB hard drive.
The TravelMate 4020 notebooks come with Microsoft Windows XP Professional pre-installed (with Recovery CD) in addition to a complete selection of useful utilities. These utilities include Acer eManager (ePresentation, eSetting, ePowerManagement and eRecovery) and Acer GridVista. The first offering provides access to a number of notebook management utilities, while the second allows up to four windows to be screened simultaneously, each associated with a different application.

The Acer TravelMate 3000 notebook, offers up to an Intel Pentium M Processor 740 running on the latest Intel 915GM Express chipset and a 533MZz Front System Bus. The newest Acer notebook also features PCI Express, a 12.1″ WXGA display, 512 MB of DDR II upgradeable to 2048MB, and an integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 video adapter with up to 128MB of dedicated DDR video memory. In addition to wireless 802.11b/g and Bluetooth support, the TravelMate offers 3 USB 2.0 ports, an IEEE 1394 port, 10/100/1000 LAN connection, and a 56K V.92 modem.

“Acer’s mobile PC line underwent some changes in Q3 2003. The company announced a new series: TravelMate 240 / 250, TravelMate 290 and TravelMate 660. With these models the company started restructuring the whole TravelMate line in order to form two groups of products.
One of the groups will include notebook PCs for users who often travel. Such models will be intended for frequent use outdoors, will have a compact size, long battery life and all wireless communication means.
Acer unveils first Centrino-based Tablet PC
The TravelMate C110 closely conforms to the Centrino standard with a Pentium M processor, 855GM chipset and 802.11b wireless connectivity. Acer said that the TravelMate C110 will adopt 802.11a/b as soon as Intel announces its availability for the Centrino platform. The Tablet PC also offers space for up to 2Gb of DDR memory and a 60Gb hard drive.
Acer told DigiTimes that the C110 is using the same chassis and 10.4-inch panel size as the TravelMate C100. The company claims to have improved the viewing angle on the screen. Rumors in the Chinese-language Commercial Times in March suggested that the new model would adopt a 14.1-inch size panel.
