Palm to Launch Treo Pro with No Carrier

Palm has officially announced its new Treo Pro smartphone, updating its Windows Mobile-powered device with a new design, a simplified interface layered on top of Windows Mobile, and integrated Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities. And, in an unusual move, Palm plans to bring an unlocked version to the North American market without a carrier partner.

“Businesses want the control and savings that Windows Mobile affords, in an innovative and elegant package that keeps their users happy. That’s where Palm comes in,” said Palm CEO Ed Colligan, in a statement. “Everything about Treo Pro—from the hardware design to the packaging and accessories—embodies the elegant and simplified end-to-end experience that our customers expect from Palm.”

Sprint Launches Palm Treo 800w Smartphone

U.S. wireless carrier Sprint has rolled out the Palm Treo 800w smartphone, a Windows Mobile-based device offering high speed mobile data services via Sprint’s EV-DO Rev A network along with integrated Wi-Fi and GPS support. The 800w marks Palm’s first new smartphone since the company introduced the Centro back in September of 2007, and aims to cash in on the newly-developing market for smartphones amongst both business and enterprise customers as well as everyday consumers who are looking to pack more media and communications capabilities into their mobile devices.

Palm Unveils Unlocked Treo 750 and Update

Palm announced today that it has begun selling unlocked versions of its Treo 750 smartphone via it’s retail locations and its online store. The unlocked Treo 750 comes with Windows Mobile 6, five-band network connectivity, and HSDPA high-speed data capability.

“The Treo 750 smartphone integrates Palm’s ease of use with the new features of Windows Mobile 6 to bring the familiar desktop experience to mobile professionals,” said Palm VP of business and consumer marketing Brent Remai, in a statement. “Palm and Microsoft’s alliance continues to provide office productivity in any away-from-the-desk setting through Direct Push Technology and a robust application portfolio.”

Vodaphone Launches Palm Treo 500v in Europe

The Vodaphone group has launched the Palm Treo 500v in Europe, offering what amounts to a revamped version of the company’s Treo 550v smartphone, only with a revised user interface and a price tag a mere fraction of its predecessor. Prices will vary by region, but in Germany the Treo 500v will start at around €30; in comparison, pricing for the Treo 550v sold for over €500 when it was launched in Europe.

Handheld maker Palm introduced the latest iteration of their Treo line on Wednesday, the Treo 755p. It will be the first Palm device to support Microsoft Direct Push e-mail technology out of the box, as well as built-in Google Maps capability, an integrated antenna, and a mini-SD slot rolled into slim form factor design. Sprint will begin offering the phone in mid-May for $279.99 with a two-year service agreement and $100 mail-in rebate.

The “new” AT&T currently transitioning away from the Cingular Wireless brand has introduced red versions of the BlackBerry Pearl and Palm Treo 680 smartphones. Both the Pearl and the Treo 680 are traditionally aimed at business and enterprise customers who want to tie their mobile works back into their electronic communications infrastructure with email, PIM, and Internet capabilities as well as standard wireless phone features. In rolling out red models, AT&T hopes to tap into unconventional businesses environments who aren’t afraid to show a little color, and increase the appeal of the smartphones to everyday mobile users.

Verizon Talks to the Palm Treo 700wx

Verizon Wireless is now offering the Palm Treo 700wx, a new edition of the company’s EV-DO capable smartphone based on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system.

"People love the Treo smartphone because they are driven by the need to stay in touch and manage a variety of communications and information—both business and personal," said Tim Roper, Palm’s U.S. region VP, in a release. "Palm’s one-of-a-kind user experience and broad support of key applications and email solutions make the Treo 700wx a core asset for mobile professionals to stay productive and maximize their downtime while on the road."

Today Palm introduced its Treo 680 smartphone with the intention of expanding the market for smartphones out of vertical markets like enterprise, business, and government and out into the mainstream mobile phone-using population. And to back it up, the Treo 680 comes in hip colors, is slimmer than its older Treo brethren, and will be backed by a $25 million marketing campaign from Palm.

Palm Treo 700wx Comes to Sprint

Palm today announced the availability of its new Treo 700wx smartphone running Windows Mobile 5.

The Treo 700wx is essentially identical to Palm’s Treo 700w, introduced in January, running Windows Mobile 5 available via Verizon. Well, except for three things: the Treo 700wc is offered by Sprint for use on its Power Vision network, it comes with more memory (60 MB of user-accessible memory), and it carries a heftier price tag ($499 for the Treo 700wx, compared to $299 for the Treo 700w).

Sprint: We’ll Be The First Treo 700p Seller

Sprint today said they were looking to be the first carrier to bring Palm’s new Treo 700p smartphone, which was announced yesterday, to market. Their target date is the end of this month, with a price point of $399.99 after available discounts and promotions.

Sprint’s take on the Treo 700p, said the wireless carrier, is that they expect to be the only provider to offer live TV capabilities- via Sprint TV – over the EvDO compatible smartphone. Additionally, they expect users of the Treo 700p to be able to take advantage of other Sprint specific services such as their mobile broadband network, their personalized news and information offering and support for their picture mail, messaging, games, ringers and screensavers.
