Microsoft wants college students to use its software. Badly. So much so that it’s offering college students a massive discount on its Office 2007 Ultimate package, slashing the price for $679 to a much more reasonable $59.95 in a deal called The Ultimate Steal.
What do they get for that? Office Ultimate contains the full versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher and OneNote as well as the InfoPath tool Groove collaboration software.
Computer folks might know the name Logitech for things like keyboards, mice, and Web cams, but the peripheral and accessories maker has apparently set it sights on the portable audio market, announcing today it has entered into a deal to acquire the privately-held Ultimate Ears for $34 million in cash. Ultimate Ears is mainly known for producing in-ear monitors used by audio engineers and performing musicians, but it has recently expanded its product lines to include consumer-oriented products as well as audiophile offerings.
It’s simple and reliable, and you can fill it with tons of hi-res music files so most fans will never know you’ve gone digital. It’s like having the biggest box of vinyl you could imagine, but in your pocket — and you can search it by keyword. It’s also compatible with an increasing array of digital DJ gear. (Check Prices)

Boutique and professional earphone maker Ultimate Ears has introduced its new triple.fi 10 Pro earphones, which take the unique approach of utilizing three separate speaker drivers in each earpiece to deliver high-quality sound.
It’s an American tradition – tailgating before a big game. One website in particular – The Ultimate Tailgater – is a huge fan of this pastime and is gearing up to offer streaming video and podcasts on having a great tailgate party.
The Ultimate Tailgater multimedia offerings, as described by “The Ultimate Tailgater’s Handbook†author Stephen Linn, are geared towards helping “tailgaters throw the best party in the parking lot.†The videos, which are called the 2 Minute Drill, feature “interviews with experts who will give tips on topics ranging from cooking at a tailgating party, to dressing for a tailgate, and everything in between.†They will initially be released twice a month, becoming monthly later this year.
Kingston Technology, a maker of memory products, yesterday announced a new line of “Ultimate†CompactFlash cards which have high write to speeds. This line up, ranging in size from 1GB to 4GB, is targeted towards high-end digital camera users and should be available now.
Kingston says their line of CompactFlash Ultimate cards get a sustained write speed of 100x, which translates to up to 18MB/sec read rate and 15MB/sec write rate. The cards, which comply with all CompactFlash Association specification standards, measure 1.43†x 1.68′ x .13†and are consider CF Type 1.
