Shortly after expanding its GeForce 8 line on the low-performance end of the spectrum with budget-priced cards, Nvidia is throwing out an offering for the bleeding-edge crowd with the GeForce 8800 Ultra, announced on Wednesday. According to Nvidia, the newest card will be 10 to 15 percent faster than the GeForce 8800 GTX that it replaces as the flagship for Nvidia’s GPU product line.

Samsung’s Q1 Ultra Gives UMPC One More Try

Last year, the new computing category of ultra-mobile PCs—UMPCs—was all the rage, defining a new, fully capable platform in the space between traditional notebook computers and, say, PDAs or smartphones. South Korea’s Samsung was the first out the door with its Q1 in mid-2006, but even Samsung admits sales and consumer response to the UMPC category has failed to live up to expectations, with Samsung failing to meet its target sales of 100,000 units in the first year. Other companies’ UMPC offers have met with similar response.

MSI FX5900XT Review

Quote from the review at HardOCP:

“NVIDIA has put themselves in an awkward situation with the 5900XT. With the performance it has shown and the potential it has with overclocking at the price point it is being sold at it could actually hinder sales of their 5700Ultra. Why purchase a 5700Ultra at the same price of a 5900XT when the 5900XT is faster?

MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128 Video Card Review

Quote from the review at Vipers Lair:

“For the games of today, the MSI 5700 Ultra will do the job. Even for games that will come later on, the FX5700 Ultra is what we consider the bare minimum for playability. With the overclocking potential, you should be ok for the next few months.”
