Computer maker Dell has expanded its line of Vostro notebook computers with the Vostro 1220, a new ultraportable model with a 12.1-inch 1,280 by 800 display. Traditionally aimed at corporate and business users, the Vostro line had traditionally featured staid looks and an emphasis on basic productivity, security, and IT-friend management. The Vostro 1220 is no exception, but it packs the necessities into a 3.36 pound package that can get as much as 9 hours of use out of a 6-cell battery.

New Dell Vostros Target Emerging Markets
U.S. computer maker Dell is making good on its commitment to increase it presence in emerging overseas markets—and no doubt to keep recent promise to its retail partners in places like India and China—by announcing two new Vostro notebooks and two new Vostro desktop systems exclusively for emerging markets in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
“Within the world’s emerging economies millions of new businesses are demanding just the technology they need, at the prices they can afford, from a vendor they can trust. Today we answer that need by introducing new products that join our existing Vostro product line,” said Dell’s president for the Asia-Pacific region Steve Felice, in a statement. Dell says the new Vostros are just the first in a series of additional Vostro products for emerging economies coming in the next several months.
Dell Unveils Revamped Vostro Notebooks
Dell’s Vostro notebooks may be considered its budget line, but that hasn’t kept the company from freshening them up with new features now and then. On Tuesday, the company announced revamped versions of its 15.4- and 13.3-inch Vostros, which benefit from slimmer designs, better security features, and pruned back trialware.
“Customers told us in a recent global laptop study that data protection and pre-installed security software are, by far, the most important security features. They also said they wanted thinner and lighter machines, all at a good price,” said Frank Muehlman, vice president of Dell’s small business division, in a statement. “We paid attention.”
