The media world is certainly paying attention to streaming videos, and television manufacturers are keen to bypass set-top boxes and home theater PC setups and integrate online video support right into their sets. The latest is Mitsubishi, which has announced taht two 52- and 46-inch entries in its Diamond Unisen series of 1080p flat-panel TVs have support for Vudu streaming video built right in to the set—along with an Ethernet port for connecting to owner’s home Internet connections.

LG Packs Vudu Streaming Movie Service into NetCast Televisions

LG Electronics has announced it will be rolling access to Vudu’s high-definition streaming movie service into its NetCast line of high-definition LCD and plasma televisions beginning next month—and existing LG Broadband TV owners will also be able to add the Vudu service to their existing sets. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but adding Vudu service provides customers purchase and rental access to a significant catalog of high-definition titles in Vudu’s HDX format, supporting 1080p resolution and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound.

Vudu Now Offering Download-to-Own HD Movies

Vudu Now Offering Download-to-Own HD Movies

Video service Vudu has become the first on-demand digital video provider to offer a download-to-own option for high-definition movies, starting off with 50 HD titles from independent film companies like Kino, FirstLook, and Magnolia Pictures—and that happens to include the just-won-an-Oscar documentary Man on Wire.

Under the service, high-definition titles can be stored on a user’s Vudu set-top box or in the online Vudu vault, an online storage service for movies and TV shows. High-definition movies are priced from $13.99 to $23.99. Selections are available in either HD or Vudu’s own HDX format at the same price; Vudu claims HDX is the highest quality on-demand format available in any medium. Vudu will offer every HD release from Kino, FirstLook, and Magnolia Pictures for high-def purchase day-and-date with the film’s DVD release. Vudu says they expect to see other film studios get on board with the download-to-own option in the coming months.

10 Best Media Streamers

The television set has to be the most loved device in the house. After all, how many hours do you spend in front of the toaster each day? Despite all of that adoration, though, the boob tube no longer corners the market when it comes to audiovisual excitement. Thanks to advancements in online multimedia delivery, services such as YouTube, Picasa and iTunes also offer a lot of Web-based entertainment to get you through the wee hours of the morning. Still, no matter how much you can contort your body, sitting in an office chair is definitely not a “sweet spot” when it comes to enjoying your favorite film or soap opera. Mercifully, these days, there are plenty of ways to get audio, video and photos off the computer and into any room of the home. Here are a few of our favorite streaming devices that let you enjoy music, movies and more anytime, anywhere.

Owners of Vudu set-top boxes got a little more out of their systems on Thursday when the company opened up availability of movie rentals in full HD, allowing users to view on-demand movies and other content in 1080p resolution. Vudu calls its new format HDX, a form of compression that shrinks files enough to offer HD content without download times, but also without the artifacts and quality sacrifice typically associated with high compression.

They Got Vudu

Yes, you could be a victim of Vudu. This, though, is quite harmless.

It’s a California company with an interesting idea. Yesterday it began shipping a unit that costs $399, and which customers can use to download and watch movies over a broadband connectionat about the same time the film arrives on DVD.

You need a connection of around 3MB a second for instant access (speed can be checked on the company site). Movie rentals must be watched within 30 days and will cost between 99 cents and $3.99, while movies can be purchased for $4.99 to $19.99.

Vudu: Another VOD Box for The Home

It has been reported the Vudu service may debut as early as this summer.

Vudu, according to a corporate press release, promises to bring thousands of movies directly to your home entertainment system without the need for a computer. Entertainment, to offer pay for access to more than 5,000 titles.
