For years, Nokia and Qualcomm have been engaged in a series of international legal battles over key mobile technology patents covering everything from CDMA and GSM to UMTS, HSDPA, and Wi-Max. The companies have filed suit against each other in multiple countries, sought to have each other’s products banned from markets, and sparred over licensing terms, royalties, and other terms. The battle has been long and ugly, and was just punctuated earlier this week with a German court finding a Qualcomm patent on GSM technology is invalid.

Amtrak Boston To Baltimore Goes WiFi
Starting today, commuters will be able to stay connected to the Internet and office email at train stations along the Northeast Corridor. Following an agreement announced earlier this year, Amtrak and AT&T Wireless today began offering high-speed wireless internet (Wi-Fi) service in six of the railroad’s busiest train stations in the region. The stations are:
- Boston Route 128 Station
- Providence
- New York Penn Station
- Philadelphia 30th Street Station
- Wilmington
- Baltimore Penn Station
ReplayTV Service Charge Angers Customers
An untold number of customers recently took advantage of a dramatic price drop for ReplayTV’s lowest-end model, thinking the $149 deal included three years of the service that’s required for the devices to work.
Now, some are furious, finding their service has been disconnected and that they will probably have to pay additional fees to reactivate it.
“It’s almost like buying a car and having the car later stop working, saying you can’t drive it anymore unless you give us more money,” said Eric Maur, 26, of Kaneohe, Hawaii.
