Software Subscriptions Start to Take Shape

I’ve been looking at Microsoft’s new Equipt offering which bundles Microsoft Office Home & Student, Windows Live OneCare, Office Live Workdspace, and Windows Live Services (Mail, Messenger, and Photo Gallery) into a $70 annual subscription for 3 PCs. I’ve been using most of this solution largely by accident for several months now on my Dell One and I find it does pretty much all I want to do with a productivity package and I haven’t really even used Workspace or Photo Gallery yet. That’s a little under $6 a month for a typical house of PCs for the basics.

Microsoft Changes Mind On Legacy Support

Microsoft said on Tuesday it would continue to offer support to customers who still own versions of its Windows 98 operating system, in a move aimed to sooth developing countries.

Extended Support for Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE had been scheduled to come to an end on Friday, January 16, while Windows Me support had been scheduled to end December 31, 2004.

The company has now decided to lengthen the Extended Support phase for Windows 98, Windows 98 SE and Windows Millennium Edition (Me) through June 30, 2006.
