Features in common on the two models include a 15.4” widescreen display, one-button access to digital media without having to start Windows and an integrated 5-in-1 media card reader.

Microsoft Nixes MCE 2006 Plans

“Microsoft for the first time in three years plans to go without a new release of Windows XP Media Center Edition, a company spokesperson says.

Instead, Microsoft plans to offer an update to Media Center Edition 2005 to refine some features, says Microsoft Product Manager Tom Laemmel, speaking in an interview at the CeBIT tradeshow here. That update would be “bigger than your standard Windows update, but smaller than a Service Pack,” he says.”

Trigem Kloss KL-I915A Review

Quote from the review:

“INCREASINGLY, THE PC IS MAKING its way from the back bedroom to the family room. Pre-built machines based on Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition are one example, but barebones makers are getting into the act, as well. Recently, Korean company Trigem released the Kloss KL-I915A. With a sleek, polished look, aluminum chassis, a front panel display and included remote control, the KL-I915A could be a solid foundation for a home theater PC. Let’s take a closer look. “

Windows XP Media Center 2005 Review

Quote from the review:

“I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center 2005 to review. Media Center is Microsoft’s answer to Tivo. It allows you to create your own Digital Video Recorder (DVR). You can do everything that Tivo allows you to do and more. In the following review I will show you some of the advantages of Media Center; along with the disadvantages (there are a few). “

Microsoft Shows Off Mobile Video Player

Earlier, at the “2004 International CES” held in January 2004, Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft, displayed a similar tool.

This player, shaped like a portable game machine, provides the function of replaying music, moving video, static images, and others.

Microsoft said that a user could record a TV program on a home server with Microsoft’s “Windows XP Media Center Edition,” and then copy it to the Portable Media Center, and watch it on the Portable Media Center unit away from home. Microsoft will market the product in the third quarter of 2004.

Gateway 901 family room media center PC

Unlike any other PC on the market today, the Gateway 901 Family Room Media Center boasts a sleek, new form factor that looks and feels like A/V equipment in the entertainment center.  The new device seamlessly brings digital media and entertainment into the family room — so great features like the Personal Video Recorder (PVR), TV tuner, DVD player, DVD recorder (select model), CD player/recorder and FM radio can all be enjoyed from one easy-to-use device. Plus, the unique Gateway 901 is also a high-performance PC, so now it’s possible to get the ultimate gaming experience, surf the Internet and work on the PC from the comfort of the couch.

“People want to unleash digital entertainment and enjoy it where they spend most of their time,” said John Engel, senior vice president and general manager of Gateway’s PC Products group.  “They want to listen to digital music, watch home movies, view digital photos, play PC games, record live television, and surf the web in the family room. The new Gateway 901 Family Room Media Center naturally extends the benefits of digital media, entertainment and information to the family room.”

The Gateway 901 Family Room Media Center is the ideal system for anyone who has ever crowded family and friends around their PC to share photos of their vacation — or for anyone who missed the TV weather report and would simply like to check the weather online without having to boot up their PC in the den.  The Gateway 901 will also be used in new ways thanks to Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 and Gateway innovation. Some of the most exciting features of Gateway 901 Media Center PC are:

We want PC-based entertainment centers

More than half of online consumers would record programs and movies on their PCs if they could play back the content on a standard television, a market-research firm said Tuesday.

The finding of a consumer poll by Jupiter Research is good news for Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition, which Jupiter expects to become the standard operating system for midlevel PCs and some desktop replacement notebooks over the next 12 to 18 months.

Based on the July online poll, Jupiter found 51% of consumers willing to record content on their PCs for playback on their TVs. But only 34% were willing to download TV content to watch on their desktops.

Sony debuts new VAIO RZ series desktops
