Jobs Back At Work

Jobs Back At Work

After six months off work, during which he reportedly underwent a liver transplant, Steve Jobs is officially back at work at his company, Apple.

The 54-year-old has said he’d be back at work by the end of June and kept his word by appearing at company headquarters in California yesterday.

An Apple spokesman said:

"Steve is back to work."

However, he won’t be in the office full time immediately, the spokesman continued:

"He’s currently at Apple a few days a week and working from home the remaining days. We are very glad to have him back."

Apple Gets Papermaster

Apple Gets Papermaster

Apple announced today that its litigation with IBM over hiring Mark Papermaster as senior vice president of Devices Hardware Engineering has been resolved, and Papermaster will start work at Apple on April 24. Apple announced in November it was hiring Papermaster to take over for iPod chief Tony Fadell, but IBM immediately sought an injunction blocking the move, claiming a non-compete agreement Papermaster signed in 2006 would prevent him working for Apple for a year.

Papermaster worked on microprocessor architecture and servers at IBM for 25 years, and has described his position at Apple has having nothing to do with his previous work. IBM maintained that Papermaster would be in a position to disclose IBM trade secrets.

Nokia Tailors E71, E66 for Mobile E-mail

Nokia made an appeal to mobile e-mail addicts on Monday with the launch of two new phones designed specifically to ease the process of checking e-mail in on the go. With support for a vast array of different e-mail protocols, the Nokia E71 and E66 allow users to check both work and personal e-mail with a one-touch setup.

The duo support the common Microsoft Exchange format (popular for work addresses), along with the less-common System Seven and Visto Mobile formats, and even popular personal e-mail services like Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, and Hotmail. After entering the necessary setup information, users are able to pull up e-mail with a single touch, and switch between a work screen and personal screen just as easily.

Swingin’ Ape to complete StarCraft: Ghost

Swingin’ Ape was formed by a number of Midway employees who left the firm after completing work on Hydro Thunder, and recently delivered original title Metal Arms: A Glitch In The System for Vivendi Universal Games.

The company’s deal with Blizzard is believed to extend beyond the StarCraft: Ghost work, with the official announcement this morning alluding to collaboration on future multi-platform projects, although no details have been announced as yet.

Last month, Blizzard admitted that StarCraft: Ghost, which was originally unveiled at the Tokyo Games Show in September 2002, would be pushed back to a 2005 release date in order to ensure that the game met the company’s quality standards.
