Totally ridiculous...I got my computer in 2002, It only has 512MB or DDR RAM, 1.80Ghz...I installed Vista Ultimate as soon as I got a copy of it, and it's running fine...The only thing I'm looking to change on my computer is the memory, I'll be getting a 1GB stick of RAM, and that should do. I find it hard to believe that it would not run on systems 1-2 years old.

a year or two old PC isnt any good huh?

Intresting, ive actually got it working on an old PIII 800 with 512mb of ram and a ati 9600pro.... but what ever you say, clearly i must be wrong because you said it wouldnt be any good to run vista.

My main PC a slightly aging P4 630 with 2GB of ram and an X800XL, it plays vista like a dream, its not been flaky in fact i can show you with a intresting new stability test and graph, it runs consistant smooth and is far more stable even in RC2 than XP.

For everyone preaching about how much ram it uses, you might be intrested in knowing that whilst it does "take" more ram initially, it has a far better memory management system than XP, it will give up huge amounts of resources when a game, say BF2 requires it. The page file is used more efficiently as well, so its impossible to compare XP and vistas memory usage directly by saying it is using more.

If it wasnt for this business with licences i would pre order mine today.
I have to highly disagree about Vista not running on older hardware. I have been testing Vista for a long while now and I have it running on some newer PCs as well as running on an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ PC with 2gigs of Crucial memory and a FX 5500 with no problems at all.

The AMD Athlon XP 3000+ PC runs faster then the dual core P4 I have it installed on.

I have heard that Vista is super flaky, I am not touching it until SP1 comes out AFTER the release. Memory is always super touchy regardless of the brand in my experience. It's best to find out from the motherboard manufacturer what brand they recommend you use.

As soon as u noticed the System was flakey, not stable on XP you should have stopped right there.
And that 2year old system commment is to generic, My current System is about 2 years old and is alot faster than the value system u bought, and its still a single core system. And Vista run really well.

I also have a Ati X800XTPE, and it installed fine with the generic vista ATi drivers. I still downloaded the newest ones off ati's site tho.

The preformance index score I get on my rig is 4.4 in vista RC2

2 days to track down a memory problem?! did you not use a free program like memtest x86+ ( http://www.memtest.org) to test your memory and hardware before beginning the build? for the hour or two it would have taken you to run the test it would of saved you a lot of time and frustration

Since I have newer components in my system I'm more concerned about the issue of transferabilty of the license as I upgrade my PC over the next couple years.

I thought Kensington memory is pretty crappy? Why not use Crucial or Corsair?

And ECS motherboards are terrible, they are probably the last company to make a Vista compatible mobo.
