To Gabor:

I think this used to be the initial purpose for Podcasting, unfortunately as companies decide to monetize their Podcasts; it turns into a business model rather than a hobby. And now that the iPod Video is out, the focus might change to videocasts as the new trend. Then people will expect video instead of audio - at least that is one scenario.

I agree that the real revolution of Podcasting is the independents; there is some great content out there. The problem is that they don't make the news like the commercial Podcasts. They will still be here after video takes over; it?s a temporary wave of the times. I think that was the focus of this article though.
What a superficial article. The real strength of podcasting is that it gives a voice to independent "broadcasters" who would not otherwise have the outlet. Also, independent music podcaster provide a means for independent unsigned bands and artists to get their music to an audience.

Never mind the commercial podcasts by the BBC and the like, the real revolution of podcasting is with the independents. No doubt the mainstream will absorb them, but that's how things go.
