"2.9 billion losses causes some real soul searching". Looking at the US Banks, you must be joking, or you know something that Obama doesn't (which is that the bankers wouldn't waste time searching for souls that aren't there).

Jokes apart, Sony isn't doing all that bad. Yes, they could do better. Almost as good as Apple, if they get their act together.

Sony still commands the highest respect in the TV world. Their portable audio has taken a hit, big time. It would probably hurt, but worth considering, to close down the portable audio line. Their PCs do make a splash, but clearly they lack focus when it comes to converting the splashes into $$$. Then there are cameras and Sony love for proprietary standards and DRM. This could do with some rethink. Sony does control a significant fraction of the entertainment industry, and this is their true jewel. A sleeping tiger that Sony doesn't know how to unleash into the market.
I don't even remember where to start with Sony. First of all they should listen to their customers. No one wants a PC loaded with so much trialware. They have some gorgeous designs, but the reliability of their PC's is worst than average.

They need to drop the DRM and provide some real value in their MP3 players. Get a REAL music site up that is DRM free and try to make it unique.

The PS3 was a disaster, they should have had two versions, one with Blu-ray and another with just DVD hardware. That would have allowed them to get the system out closer to the $200 mark. They could always add a Blu-ray player to the cheaper model later in the form of an external device.

When it comes to the PS3, it's an amazing system. I just hate the little things like the lack of DivX support until just very recently. They JUST now finally added support for the latest flash so you can watch shows on Hulu.com using the PS3. These are basic software updates and capabilities that should have worked from day one. Instead they keep trying to force their proprietary technologies on everyone.
