At CES 2009 Panasonic announced a commitment to development 3D products and they stuck to their word, because during CES 2010 Panasonic introduced a complete lineup of Full HD 3D consumer products and new HD 3D technology. Panasonic will launch a complete line of Full HD 3D VIERA Plasma Televisions ranging from 50 to 65-inches with all models including one pair of Panasonic’s 3D Eyewear. The Full HD 3D DMP-BDT350 Blu-ray player was also announced and received the Consumer Electronics Association’s esteemed Innovations Award. After a lukewarm entry into the mini HD camcorder market with last year’s Webbie, Sony returned to CES this year with a batch of cams ready to roll with the likes of the Kodak Zi8, Flip MinoHD, and Creative VadoHD. They’re called Bloggies. Despite the cutesy names, both the Bloggie CM5 and PM5 boast features that none of the aforementioned cameras bring to market.

Plastic Logic Que proReader Hands on First Impressions

Of all the features we’ve heard people clamoring for in e-readers – bigger, touch-enabled screens, more content, additional file compatibility – the words “more expensive” just never seemed to make the list. That makes Plastic Logic’s new $800 Que proReader a bit of an eyebrow raiser right out of the gate, but despite the outrageous price tag, it does manage to fill many of the other feature holes that have kept e-readers stuck in the novelty zone for so long.

Taking Skiff’s Sprint-Powered Reader for a Hands On Spin

When Sprint invited us to a quiet meeting room in the backwaters of CES 2010 to view the upcoming Skiff Reader, we couldn’t help but be reminded of last year’s somewhat lackluster demo with the Palm Pre. That time, orders were “take all the photos you want, but don’t touch.” This time, our lucky little hands got to take the Skiff for a spin, but cameras were strictly verboten.

D-Link Boxee Box Hands On First Impressions

To a casual onlooker, the hype and excitement that D-Link’s Boxee Box generated at CES 2010 must have looked almost inexplicable. It’s another media streamer. It sits by your TV and plays content off a network. And the case looks like something ripped straight from a first-year industrial-design student’s notebook.

All valid observations. But it also plays Hulu, costs less than $200, and sports a slick user interface that makes most DVRs and cable boxes look like relics from 1993 – with a remote that does the same. These features alone probably explain why the quirky little Box is now the darling of home theater nerds everywhere.

We decided to once again make the trek out to Las Vegas to get our own impression of all the hype coming out of CES. We didn’t go last year, and we missed it a little, so we had to go this year. By far the biggest theme of the show this year was 3D. Some of what we saw was really good, some was really bad and of course some was just downright strange.

Gadgets and gasoline continued to get a little friendlier at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, where a number of manufacturers showed off new in-car technology that promises to make your ride to work every bit as connected as the home. From in-car entertainment systems for listening to Jay-Z on the move, to devices that get you where you need to go (with the least gas), here were some of our favorites.

“On screen, Mr. Sulu!”

Captain Kirk’s words from the original Star Trek have promised a world of face-to-face communication with a click of a button for nearly half a century now. And while it’s been possible for at least a decade, implementations that involved sitting at a computer or talking through a tiny “video phone” screen at a table haven’t quite lived up to the original premise.

Ready to fulfill your Knight Rider fantasy of owning a fully automated car with personality, like KITT?

Sorry, you’ll still need to cobble together a replica and sculpt your own Hasselhoff hair, for now. But Ford will bring the ordinary buying public a step closer this year with the introduction of MyFord Touch, the next generation of the longstanding Sync project with Microsoft. The company showed off live examples of the technology at the Microsoft Embedded booth at CES 2010.
