Asus Zaps HD Wirelessly to Your HDTV with Amimon

Asus certainly won’t be the first company to dabble with wireless HD – we took a look at Iogear’s $900 solution back in July – but with an MSRP of just $199, the upcoming Asus WiCast EW2000 PC may just be one of the most promising for cash-strapped home theater enthusiasts. On Tuesday, Asus announced that it has partnered with Amimon, a member of the WHDI coalition, to provide the essential chips powering the EW2000.

Amimon was a founding member of WDHI, along with Hitachi, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and LG, back in 2008. Though you might not recognize the name, it’s the company already providing chips in wireless HD products from LG, Sharp, Mitsubishi and others.

Microsoft Cancels the Xbox Live Game Show, 1 vs 100

In a short press release issued today, Microsoft has confirmed the cancellation of the online game show, 1 vs. 100, after two seasons. The online game show (which was based on the TV version hosted by Bob Saget that aired from October 2006 through February 2008, itself based on a Dutch game of the same name), set a Guinness world record for most contestants in a game show during its beta run when it attracted more than 114,000 people on Xbox Live simultaneously.

Microsoft Offers Xbox Live Gold Family Pack For $100

With more and more of an emphasis being placed on the online services available on Microsoft’s Xbox Live service, it makes sense that the company would look to expand its online membership. With the new XBL Gold Family Pack package, gamers can connect online under their own accounts, rather than logging in online as guests, or simply sharing the same account.

The announcement, first reported by Gamersblog, will allow four users to connect with their own XBL Gold membership. Typically, the service costs $50 per year per person. With the new package, $99 will set up four people for a year.

EA Flicks on Sirens for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Proving the timeless concept of cops and robbers never wears itself thin – or at least hoping so – EA will return to the Smokey and the Bandit concept for the latest iteration of the Need for Speed franchise: Hot Pursuit.

Sound familiar? That’s because NFS already covered this ground in 1998 with Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit and again in 2003 with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. This version will stray from those dated versions of the franchise with a focus on online play.
