This is a top notch LCD. I’m not sure why Vizio says the resolution is only 720p. It can display 1080p when using HDMI and 1920×1080 when using VGA. It also has dual split screen (POP) and PIP. It has way more options and features than my 42″ LG LCD. If you are looking for an affordable and feature filled LCD this Vizio is the way to go. I will buy Vizio again.

Since this was my second Vizio HDTV purchase in the past 2 years I just sort of figured that it would be pretty much like the first except in a smaller package. Well I was partly right. The picture quality is awesome, 3 HDMI ports, and at $599 at Costco a great value, BUT you do give up a few features. To my dismay I discovered that when receiving a signal from set top box in either HDMI or component mode all you can get is the default WIDE picture mode. That means when you are watching a non HD station you will lose 3″ on either side of the picture. There is no provision to go to full screen so it’s like watching a regular TV. If you use an antenna or hook your cable straight into the TV THEN you can access those features. I’m a little annoyed by this since if you’re watching a widescreen non HD movie on cable that is letterboxed, you not only lose the picture at the sides but the top also which ends up looking pretty stupid if not small. Also there is no zoom feature either. Not a really big deal but if you like playing with that stuff you won’t find it here. I’m not sure yet if I’m feeling snookered since this is stuff you’ll only find out about after you get it home, all hooked up and start working with it. I don’t think this necessarily makes it a deal breaker but then again I might have considered something else if I’d known about it in advance.

I have this HDTV, and I too am surprised that the native resolution says 720p. I have an HDMI cable straight into my HDTV DVR cable box, and the output is 1080i. This tv looks and sounds great for a small room.

The first poster mentioned you cannot “stretch” or “zoom” some non HD or even some HD programming that doesn’t fill the entire screen. With my Time Warner cable remote, and the HDMI input, I can, with a push of a button, widen or fill the entire screen on Non-HD channels OR, as an example ESPNHD (which typically “shrinks” their picture) can expand it to fill the entire screen without looking “stretched”.

In addition, with my cable box, I can choose the output resolution to choose between 720p or 1080i automatically. Also, I can choose to view either 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 regular display. Great value for the money, especially with 3 HDMI slots, a free HDMI cable included in the box and a cleaning cloth.

This is a great set, excellent picture on HD and even on SD. Can’t beat the price. This has exceeding all my expectations.

As far as the one reviewer about the stretching the screen. Well I have a Comcast remote and it stretches all the 4:3 and the the letterboxed movies and programs. No issue here, but doesn’t matter anyway since I hate the stretched distorted look it gives anyway. But yeah if stretching is your thing your cable box will do the stretching, not a big deal at all.

But anyway GREAT TV, Just love it.

I replaced my 5 year old 30″ Samsung CRT HDTV with this display, absolutely wonderful! I run my MythTV frontend/backend connected to the VGA input (Custom mode line needed) and I do get 1366×768. Also have my Game PC connected to the HDMI at 1280×768.

The only downside is looking at the display close to its maximum viewable angle, then the contrast is terrible – but that is expected with an LCD somewhat.

I love this TV, doesn’t matter if I am watching sports, FoodNetwork, playing HalfLife2, enjoying a movie on NetFlix, or watching TV episodes online from ABC,CBS,NBC.

For a real world consumer who wants a good value and great flexibility, this has to be it.
