I really love this card. I’ve had it for a while, but as far as overclocking goes, it comes with it’s own overclocking device built in. ATI’s drivers are released aabout 1 per month, which is awesome to say the least. I can play every game, Far Cry, Pain Killer, Call of Duty, etc. with the settings all the way maxed out. The only problem with Far Cry is I have to run it at 1024×768 or else I get some slow down. Overall a great card and I highly recommend it. But I would wait and see what ATI is going to do next before I buy.

I agree with DJ Shamroc. I wouldn’t expect much from the ‘Overdrive’ overclocking utility, but by default this card is super-fast! The 256MB memory is shown to help in high resolutions and will help future-proof the card if you don’t intend on purchasing the next generation graphics cards right away. The Catalyst drivers seem to see improvement every month; not perfect but getting there.
The only negative is the high price tag, mainly because it is the fastest ATI card out now….(kinda like Intel or AMD’s fastest processor at the time) so it comes with a premium. Now is a bad time because in the next few months the next gen cards are schedule to release. I wouldn’t expect this card to drop by much even when that happens…maybe 50-100 bucks difference.
In the end your best bet would be to wait or conserve your cash on say a 9700 based graphics card…the 9800 isn’t a huge jump from that, performance-wise. Overall I think ATI did a nice job but the 9800 is more of a response to NVIDIA’s fastest flagship Ultra model.

I’ve had mine for a few months now and while the performance sis nothing to scoff at, the drivers are somewhat buggy. I have had many issues with texture tearing and items not being drawn properly. This was fixed by using the omega drivers found at http://www.omegacorner.com but I dont think that an individual should have to fix the problems in a big companies product. Overall this is a very good card as long as you dont mind using 3rd party drivers.

Bought one due to an upgrade from an ATI Radeon 9200. Card performs well at high spec settings. However the big down fall is the fan noise! It is very noisy so watch out. You may require a third party quite fan.

Yes the fan on the 9800 sucks. I have burned my 9800 pro up because the fan will die. Crappy work. If you have one immediatly buy a replacement fan. DO it or regret it!

Well looks like i’m in the same boat I spent about $500 on this card the fan goes out and apparently a chip has burnt up. Now I get all sorts of cool looking red dots all over my screen and I cant run any 3d games at all.
