Live outside the U.S.? You can pre-order an Oculus Rift now, too

For everyone who lives outside of the United States, the wait for the Oculus Rift has been long and fraught with frustration. But now, friends, Facebook has finally decided that you’ve waited long enough. That’s right — the much-anticipated virtual reality headset has now opened pre-orders to consumers outside the 50 states, announcing today that interested parties in the U.K., France, Germany, and Canada can look forward to a ship date of September 20.

Starting Tuesday, eager customers can order the Rift online from retailers across Europe and Canada, with the suggested European retail price standing at 549 pounds or 699 euros (around $790). Luckily for those in the U.K., the Oculus price tag didn’t jump in the same way as did the HTC Vive headset, which increased its price earlier this month by 70 pounds, thanks to “recent currency valuation changes.”

“Every Rift comes with the popular VR platformer Lucky’s Tale, along with hundreds of free 3D 360 videos and VR movies, plus access to the ever-expanding collection of made-for-VR games and experiences on the Oculus Store,” Oculus said in a blog post announcement. “The Oculus Store will support purchases in multiple currencies, including British Pound, Euro, CAD, AUD, and JPY.”

You’ll still have to wait a bit longer for Touch controllers, and Oculus has also indicated that they’ll cost you extra (though details are still sparse). The company has, however, promised to reveal more information at OC3. If you’re not totally sold yet on the headset, Oculus is encouraging users to schedule a demo at nearby retailers with Oculus Live. The firm is adding new locations every week, so it’ll get easier and easier to experience VR firsthand.

The Oculus Rift is the older of the two designs and though it does show, it's not an antiquated device.
