'Mount Wingsuit,' 'Space Jones VR' among Oculus Store's latest standouts

Oculus VR has revealed its latest batch of games and virtual reality experiences available via the Oculus Store, including the immersive extreme sports sim Mount Wingsuit and the sci-fi spaceship shooter Space Jones VR.

This week also marks the Oculus Store launch of a handful of VR minigames, including developer Tricol’s basketball sim Free Throw Bomber and the free multiplayer card game Casino VR Poker.

Ninja Whale Studios’ Mount Wingsuit, now available via the Oculus Store, simulates a high-altitude wingsuit diving session via a first-person perspective. Players compete for the best times in 40 included challenges, including slalom courses and competitions focused on finding the best midair travel lines.

Mount Wingsuit also includes a Survival mode for experts, while casual players may want to opt for an alternate, exploration-driven mode that allows for free flight across all of the game’s included mountain settings. Mount Wingsuit is priced at $15.

Also premiering this week is Space Jones VR, a shooter that puts players in control of an intergalactic battleship. Previously released via Steam, Space Jones VR confronts players with waves of invading space pirates who must be taken out before they can reach a treasure chest at the center of the playfield. Space Jones VR is up for grabs at $10 via the Oculus Store.

Other games making their Oculus Store debut this week include the arcade-style basketball sim Free Throw Bomber, free-to-play gambling sim Casino VR Poker, and Heroes of the Seven Seas, a high-seas pirate sim featuring ship-upgrading and ocean-navigating mechanics.

The Oculus Store also hosts several interactive non-gaming experiences this week, including Ctrl, which its creators describe as “a compelling drama which follows the story of a young gamer embroiled in an e-sports competition in the midst of a war at home.”

Other releases for the Oculus Store this week include the live event viewer Voke VR, digital comic book Magnetique 01, “virtual reality docudrama” Diggers, and Specular Theory, which offers “award-winning VR content including music and entertainment, originals, and other fun experiments.”

Featured Oculus Store games are compatible with Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR headsets.

Has Oculus Link let the Quest completely replace the Rift S?
oculus link transforms quest better riff s with 2019

Oculus announced that it will release a USB-C cable and an important software update that will transform the Quest into a VR headset that behaves just like the company's premium Rift S head-mounted goggles.

A year ago when Quest was unveiled at Facebook's Oculus Connect, the midrange headset promised a compelling stand-alone experience that freed users from the entanglements of cords or the requirements of a capable PC, but Quest owners had to rely on a separate library of stand-alone VR titles. However, when Oculus Link lands, Quest owners will be able to take advantage of most titles developed for Rift and Rift S -- Facebook staff on hand were not able to disclose why certain titles may not function.

The Oculus Rift S finally earned a release date at Facebook's F8 Conference on April 30: The company is now taking orders, and shipping is scheduled to begin on May 21. The Oculus Quest is also available for pre-order, with both headsets listed at $399 -- a considerable step up from Facebook's more affordable and portable option, the Oculus Go.

A successor to Oculus’ original virtual reality headset was first announced at the 2019 Game Developers Conference. On March 20, the VR company debuted its newest headset, the Oculus Rift S. Despite its simple name, the headset will offer a number of new features and improvements including an increase in resolution, improved tracking, and a feature called Passthrough Plus.
