Bob Boilen and Robert Hilton are big names in the NPR music scene. Boilen’s show introduces listeners to all genres of music, from that emerging Latin America band you’ve never heard of to the more mainstream indie fixes such as Animal Collective and Jack White. Listener solicitations and ideas even curate many of the shows so you’re left with that feel-good feeling like you’re somehow part of something special. Oh NPR. |

Seattle’s’ KEXP is constantly at the forefront of broadcasting new alternative and indie music. The show features both prominent and emerging artists from the Pacific Northwest and around the world, all the while satisfying your taste for something you’ve never heard before. The DJs are knowledgeable and the show is a musical hodgepodge in the best possible way. KEXP’s Music That Matters should be one of the Podcasts That Matter on your list. |

More than two years after launching, Who Charted? proves that a show merely about the charts can make it big. Hosts Howard Kremer and Kulap Vilaysack are funny, play off each other rather well, and cover everything from the week’s music to movies. Word to the wise though, just because something makes the charts, that doesn’t mean it’s any good. |

Electronic music more your thing? Then Above & Beyond is where it’s at. The London DJ trio Above & Beyond hosts the weekly two-hour show, bringing in a 30-minutes guest mixes from some of their favorite artists along with song flashbacks and exclusive tracks from some of the biggest names in electronic music. The podcast is a great alternative if you’re trying to get away from the indie rock scene and into something completely different. |

While not available as often as some of the other music podcasts, Morning Becomes Eclectic is still a great way to open your ears to something new. The programming truly is as eclectic as the name implies. One minute you can be listening to progressive synth-pop from Zimbabwe and the next to some outlandish jazz-fusion ensemble coming out of Soviet Russia. It’s a bit more on the mild side, but it’s still out there enough to impress your hipster buddies. |

The Mike O’Meara Show FTW!
I came here to add TMOS to the list too! TMOS is easily the best podcast out there, in part because the people working on the show are radio professionals. They know how to be funny, entertaining and compelling, and they do say day after day.
How dare you sir! I learned of this site from The Mike O’Meara show, found at mikeomearashow.com. It is by far the best podcast. Comedy, news and informative in one awesome 80 minute podcast. Not to mention if you are into pure, good quality audio, The Mike O’meara show has by far this best audio quality out there. Respect given where it is deserved. But if you don’t believe me check them out. 80 minutes and you’ll be hooked.
The Mike O’Meara Show for comedy (it’s free and also can be streamed from their website: mikeomearashow.com) and Tech411 for tech.
‘Toppers with Gil for comedy. And music.
