Here's Where Thor Was During 'Captain America: Civil War'

It seemed like this year’s Captain America: Civil War managed to feature just about every superhero from Marvel Studios’ cinematic universe, but at least one character was conspicuously absent from the film: the god of thunder himself, Thor.

For those wondering what Thor — and for that matter, The Hulk — were up to during the events of Civil War, Marvel has released the short film it screened at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, which answers that very question. Apparently, Thor was having a perfectly fine time hanging out with a new human pal and learning about life among the mortals (but he did try to help Captain America and Iron Man sort things out, to no avail).

The short, which features Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as Thor along with a brief appearance by Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk’s alter ego, Bruce Banner, premiered during Marvel Studios’ panel event at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year and will be a bonus feature on the home-entertainment release of Civil War. The film will be available on Digital HD, Digital 3D, and Disney Movies Anywhere on September 2 and on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, and On-Demand almost two weeks later on September 13.

For those concerned with keeping track of Marvel’s movie continuity, you can rest assured that the short film isn’t part of the official cinematic universe canon — unless the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok is more of a situational buddy comedy than we’ve been led to believe.

With Thor absent from Civil War and not expected to appear in the upcoming Marvel movies Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, or Spider-Man: Homecoming, the next time the god of thunder is seen on the big screen could be 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, which will likely feature both Thor and The Hulk. That film is currently shooting, with Hemsworth and Ruffalo confirmed, and with Tom Hiddleston also reprising his role as Loki.

Also expected to appear in the film are Idris Elba and Jaimie Alexander as Heimdall and Sif, respectively, as well as Karl Urban as Skurge, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and with Anthony Hopkins reprising his role as Odin, and Jeff Goldblum making his debut as the enigmatic Grandmaster.
