Wacom has announced a new graphic tablet that is actually a full-fledged Windows 10 PC boasting some impressive specs, including a 4K display, up to 16GB of RAM, and options for Intel’s Core I7 and Nvidia’s Quadro Graphics. The result is a graphic tablet that can handle heavy professions 2D, 3D, and CAD workloads on the go, whether in the comfort of your couch or on the plane to your next location.

The MobileStudio Pro will be available in two sizes, a 13-inch model and a 16-inch model, with several hardware variations for each. The base 13-inch model, the cheapest of the options, features an Intel Core I5, 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, Intel Iris Graphics 550, and runs on Windows 10 Home. On the 16-inch model, there are just two options, a Core I5-based variant and a Core I7-based variant. The Core I5 model features 256GB of storage, 8GB of RAM, a 4K display, and Nvidia Quadro graphics. The I7 model doubles the RAM and storage, as well as the video memory, but is otherwise similar to the I5 variant.

wacom-mobilestudiopro2“Unlike most general-purpose mobile tablets created for the mass market, Wacom’s MobileStudio Pro was designed specifically for the needs of the creative professional and how they work,” says Ed Neumann, senior vice president of marketing for Wacom’s Creative Branded Business. “Our long-standing relationship with the professional creative community enabled us to develop a game-changing solution for the creative market that exceeds customer expectations and provides the best, most natural, and [most] precise creative experience imaginable.”

Microsoft’s Surface Pro line of tablet PCs has been marketed to a similar demographic, but in many ways fell short for those who relied on the pen interface for precise actions and processes. Wacom’s long history in the graphics tablet market has earned it some of the best technology there is in terms of pen performance and reliability, giving Wacom’s new MobileStudio Pro units an edge over similar products on the market geared toward more general use.

Speaking of the pen, for the new MobileStudio Pro products Wacom has unveiled the Pro Pen 2, which the company claims to sport 4 times greater accuracy and pressure sensitivity compared to the company’s previous generation pro pen.

The MobileStudio Pro will start at $1,399 for the base 13-inch model noted above and will go for as much as $2,999 for the 16-inch I7 model noted above. Wacom has said to expect the new units to hit retail shelves at some point in late November.
