Everybody’s always smiling in ‘Luke Cage: Family Matters’ sitcom mashup video

Luke Cage: Family Matters
Not too long ago, an industrious online video editor assembled some carefully selected scenes from Marvel’s Avengers against the backdrop of the theme to ’80s sitcom Full House and gave the world Avengers: Full House — a fantastic little mashup of nostalgia and modern superhero cinema.

That editor has returned with yet another fantastic juxtaposition of Marvel property and familiar television sitcom, and the result is a hilarious video titled (appropriately enough) Luke Cage: Family Matters.

The creation of YouTube user Zach AceLuke Cage: Family Matters somehow finds the heartwarming family fun (or at least, the appearance of heartwarming family fun) in Marvel’s Luke Cage series on Netflix, and blends it with the catchy melody of ’90s sitcom Family Matters, which followed the trials and tribulations of middle-class life for the Winslow family in Chicago. And much like Avengers: Full House, the mashup of the two properties in Luke Cage: Family Matters seems surprisingly seamless in the final product.

Given how gritty the tone of Luke Cage is, it’s amazing to see how many smiles the creator of the video could find in the 13-episode season, and how well the selected scenes blended with the lighthearted tone of the sitcom’s theme song. The end result makes a pretty strong case for a sitcom spin on Luke Cage’s adventures in Harlem.

For anyone not familiar with Family Matters, the long-running sitcom premiered in 1989 and ran for nine seasons until it finally ended its run in 1997. Originally intended as a spinoff series from Perfect Strangers, the show went on to become the second-longest-running, non-animated American sitcom with a predominantly African-American cast, ranking just behind The Jeffersons.

As for Luke Cage, the series premiered on Netflix in September and follows the steel-skinned superhero of the same name from the Marvel Comics universe as he deals with powerful criminal elements in Harlem attempting to take control of the New York City neighborhood. The series has earned positive reviews as the third original series to come out of the partnership between Marvel and Netflix.

Like Furiosa? Then watch these 3 Chris Hemsworth action movies on Netflix now
A bearded man looks ahead in Furiosa.

If Furiosa made you realize that Chris Hemsworth has been underrated as a movie star, you aren't alone. George Miller's directorial vision gives Hemsworth the chance to truly unleash everything that he's capable of, and the results are one of the best performances of Hemsworth's career to date.

After watching Furiosa, you might be looking for some other great Hemsworth movies to keep you entertained. We've assembled some of the best Chris Hemsworth movies that you should watch, and we've avoided his excellent run in the MCU entirely (though Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War would make for good choices there). Instead, we've selected a few less well-known titles.
