Even though the rest of the phone was fairly standard, the Blu Energy X Plus was memorable for its large 4,000mAh battery. It has been around 15 months, and Blu has now announced its successor, the Energy X Plus 2.

Starting with the highlight feature, the Energy X Plus 2 features a huge 4,900mAh battery, which Blu alleges will allow for up to three days of use and at least 30 days of standby time. The company did not say how it arrive at such metrics, but the phone does support 5V/2A quick charge, so you will not have to wait a terribly long time for the battery to charge back up.

Elsewhere, the Energy X Plus 2 brings it down a few notches, with a 5-megapixel selfie camera with LED flash sitting above the 5.5-inch, 1,280 x 720 resolution display. Around back, you will find an 8MP sensor with its own flash module.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6580 chipset and 1GB RAM, with only 8GB of native storage offered to would-be buyers. There is a MicroSD card slot that can augment the anemic storage by up to 64GB, so storage junkies, take note.

Unfortunately, the Energy X Plus 2 tops out at HSPA+ connectivity, so no LTE for those looking for it. Finally, the phone runs Blu’s custom skin on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with an update to Nougat unknown at this point.

Overall, the Energy X Plus 2 seems to compete directly with the LG X Power in that both phones feature large batteries combined with low- to mid-end specs. Unlike the latter, which goes for $220 unlocked, the former will be available for $100 unlocked. The Energy X Plus 2 is currently shown as temporarily out of stock on Amazon, but the phone is nonetheless available in black, gold, and pink rose gold.

The Honor Magic 6 RSR is my new favorite Android phone of 2024
Someone holding the Honor Magic 6 RSR outside.

There's no doubt that 2024 has already been an exciting year for Android phones. Samsung wowed us with the Galaxy S24 series at the beginning of the year, the OnePlus 12 and 12R are two of the best phones available right now, and Google is expected to impress later this month with the Google Pixel 8a.

But for the last few weeks, I haven't been thinking about any of those phones. Why? Because I've been using the Honor Magic 6 RSR. After launching in China this past March, the Magic 6 RSR is now available in the EU, and that's allowed more folks than ever to get their hands on the phone. And that's great, because the Honor Magic 6 RSR has quickly become my new favorite Android phone of 2024.
