'Doctor Who' trailer offers peek at Peter Capaldi's final go-round as the Time Lord

OFFICIAL TRAILER | Doctor Who Season 10 | Saturday April 15 @ 9/8c
We’re fast approaching the debut of Peter Capaldi’s final season as The Doctor in the record-setting BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who, and now a new trailer has found its way online that offers a peek at what’s to come for the famous Time Lord and his companions.

Along with featuring more footage of actress Pearl Mackie as new companion Bill Potts, the trailer also showcases some of the alien allies and enemies — both new and familiar — that The Doctor will face before Capaldi passes the mantle on to the next star of the BBC series.

The upcoming season is the tenth since the series was relaunched in 2005, but it will actually be the 36th season overall — the show premiered back in 1963. The series follows the adventures of one of the last remaining Time Lords — a member of a scientifically advanced alien race — as he travels through time and space to protect the universe from all manner of threats.

Capaldi is the 12th actor to star in the series since its inception, and he confirmed in January that this upcoming season would be his last in the role. He joined the series in 2013 and appeared in two full seasons — and a series of specials — prior to the upcoming season.

Joining Capaldi and Mackie in the upcoming season will be returning cast member Matt Lucas as Nardole, the character he portrayed in the 2015 Christmas episode, “The Husbands of River Song,” and last year’s Christmas episode, “The Return of Doctor Mysterio.”

The upcoming season will also be the final one for the series’ head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, who has served in that role for the last five seasons. He’ll be replaced by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall after the conclusion of the 2017 season.

The upcoming season of Doctor Who is scheduled to premiere at 9 p.m. ET on April 15on BBC America. The episode will be followed by the premiere of Class, a Doctor Who spinoff series.

Stranger Things season 5: everything we know so far
The cast of "Stranger Things" stand next to each other and look up.

After one of the great cliffhangers in the show's history, fans are eager to gather every detail about Stranger Things 5. Understandably, season 5, the finale of Netflix's Stranger Things, is now one of television's most highly anticipated events. Since Vecna succeeded in tearing open a massive gate to the Upside Down, audiences now expect the heroes of Hawkins to engage in an epic final battle against the evil psychic and his army of monsters.

At this point, details regarding the season to end all seasons have been scarce, and the world likely won't get to see the show's last episodes for quite a while. In the meantime, here's everything that has been revealed and should be expected from Stranger Things 5.

What’s new on Disney+ in May 2024
Morgan Elsbeth in Star Wars: Tales of the Empire.

Welcome to the paradox of Disney+: It's the streaming service with blockbuster brands and an incredibly shrinking lineup of original programing. There's no better example of this than Disney+'s lineup for May. Marvel and Star Wars fans have a lot to be excited about with the series finale of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, the three-part season finale of X-Men '97, and the premiere of Star Wars: Tales of the Empire streaming during the month. There's even a new season of Doctor Who coming on May 10, as well as Pixar's Monsters At Work season 2 on May 5.

Beyond that, music lovers get to look forward to documentaries about The Beatles, Queen, and The Beach Boys, while The Muppets creator Jim Henson gets a documentary of his own. All of that sounds great until you realize that everything we listed above accounts for roughly 94% of Disney+'s original content for the entire month of May. So, where's the rest of it? As much as we love dessert, there's no main course here. And June doesn't have a hot Marvel show to fall back on, which means summer may look pretty barren in the House of Mouse.
