Square Enix announced this week that the release dates for two of its highly anticipated titles for 2020, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Marvel’s Avengers, will be pushed back.

According to the publisher, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which was slated to launch on March 3 exclusively for the PlayStation 4, will now launch on April 10. That’s the same month as two other high-profile 2020 games, Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 remake and the upcoming action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 developed by CD Projekt Red.

“We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience,” Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase said. “I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer. Thank you for your patience and continued support.”

Initially announced at E3 2015 during the PlayStation press conference, Final Fantasy VII Remake will serve as a full remake of the original PlayStation game. While the remake will contain the original story told over 20 years ago, the upcoming title will make a few minor tweaks to the plot. The remake will abandon the Active Battle System found of the original in favor of more action-oriented gameplay similar that found in Final Fantasy XV and the Kingdom Hearts series.

The upcoming Avengers game, which was slated to launch on May 15, had its release date pushed back to September 4.

“We will spend this additional development time focusing on fine-tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.” Crystal Dynamics’ studio heads Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg said in a press release.

Following a two-year wait, Square Enix officially unveiled Marvel’s Avengers to the public, with Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics taking over development duties. Set during a period of triumph for the Avengers, the team’s roster in the upcoming title consists of Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, and Thor; other superheroes, including Ms. Marvel, are set to appear as well.

The game will include a single-player campaign, which consists of Hero missions, as well as co-op and Warzone-type missions as well. The game will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and Google Stadia.

The debate around GTA 6's "physical" edition just got another twist. Rockstar has confirmed on its official website that PS5 download codes included with physical copies of Grand Theft Auto VI sold in Japan will expire 170 days after the game's November 19, 2026 launch date. That means players who don't redeem the code before roughly May 8, 2027 could be left with nothing more than an empty game box, even though they purchased a physical copy. The company says the policy is required due to regional regulations in Japan.

Fresh off launching a metallic Hall-effect keyboard and a 59g gaming mouse for flashy esports setups, Lenovo has turned its attention to gamers working with much tighter budgets. The Legion 24-1r looks made for broke college students who spent way too much on their first gaming rig and now have instant noodles doing most of the heavy lifting at dinner. It costs just 669 yuan, equivalent to around $99, yet offers a 23.8-inch IPS panel running at up to 280Hz.

Lenovo is also offering the 27-inch Legion 27-1r with the same core specifications for 789 yuan, or roughly $116. For the ramen-budget crowd chasing competitive frame rates, both look like seriously tempting deals. (via NotebookCheck)
