Does Verizon offer free phones to new customers?

iPhone 12 models
Andrew Martonik / Digital Trends

You bet, but temper your expectations. While Verizon’s new customer deals and sign-up offers are a good way to score a more basic phone for free (like the 2020 iPhone SE or one of the Samsung Galaxy A-series devices, to name just a couple of popular examples), you’ll still have to pay for newer, more expensive phones like the iPhone 15 Pro.

That’s not to say there aren’t cheap Verizon deals on those phones, though. Carrier sign-up discounts like these Verizon new customer deals are arguably the best and most straightforward way to snag one of those new flagships for a low price. These markdowns usually come in the form of bill credits and are only offered with unlimited plans, requiring you to buy the phone first and then get a discount on your bill. That might not sound as enticing as a standalone price cut, but that’s just psychological — you’re still getting the savings. You’ll notice those savings as you rack them up with each (discounted) monthly payment. There are even some deals, like the trade-in offer for the Samsung Galaxy S23 , that still technically come as monthly discounts, but will completely cover the cost of the phone. That means the phone will be completely free as long as you stay with Verizon for a few years.

AppleCare One has spent its first year locked to the United States. Now, Apple is finally letting a few more countries into the club. AppleCare One will expand to the UK, France, Germany, and Australia beginning August 4, marking the first international rollout of the bundled protection service since its US debut in July 2025.

The plan allows customers to cover up to three eligible Apple products under a single monthly subscription, with additional devices available for an extra fee. This makes it particularly appealing if your collection already includes an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac.

Buying your next Apple device could soon look like leasing a car. Apple is launching its new Apple Upgrade program on Tuesday, July 28, replacing new enrollments in the long-running iPhone Upgrade Program with a lease-based option that covers iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches.

Backed by Klarna, the program is designed to lower the upfront cost of Apple's premium devices, but it is also raising questions about whether you'll actually own what you're paying for.
