Nintendo will reveal more about Super Mario Bros. Wonder during a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the game that’s set for later this week. Nintendo announced this new 2D Mario game during a Direct in June, but we haven’t learned much more about it since then outside of the fact that Charles Martinet won’t voice Mario in it. As such, this is a presentation Mario fans will definitely want to tune into ahead of the game’s release in October. If you’re planning to watch the Super Mario Bros. Nintendo confirmed that the Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct will take place at 7 a.m. PT on August 31. It says the showcase will last “roughly 15 minutes,” so you’ll only need to set aside a little bit of time on Thursday morning for it.

What to expect from the Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct

Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches for Nintendo Switch on October 20, but there’s still a lot we don’t know about it. Nintendo simply says the Direct will serve as “an in-depth look at Mario’s latest 2D side-scrolling adventure,” so expect a deep dive into the different characters, gimmicks, and abilities players will encounter during the game.

I personally hope we learn more about some of the new power-ups we can use in the adventure, like the Wonder Flower that makes levels weird and the strange-looking power-up that turns Mario into an elephant. One thing you shouldn’t expect from this Direct: other Nintendo games. This is a livestream to tune into if you want to learn more about Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Super Mario Bros. Wonder alone. That’s not such a bad thing, though.

After lots of rumors (and a lot of educated guessing), Nintendo will finally give players a new Direct presentation this week -- just as it does almost every February. This time, however, we aren't getting a full-scale Direct bursting with first-party news. Instead, Nintendo will host a Partner Showcase that will focus on third-party games. While that would usually be a bit underwhelming, its notable considering that Xbox just announced that four of its games are headed to other platforms.

As such, the 25-minute showcase is one you probably won't want to miss. It's sure to give us a broader picture of what the last leg of the Nintendo Switch's life span will look like. Here's everything we know about the show and how you can watch it.

The Partner Showcase will take place at 6 a.m. PT. on Wednesday, February 21. Nintendo notes that it's a 25-minute showcase. It will launch as an on-demand video rather than a traditional livestream, so the stakes are a bit low here. When it comes to Mario, Nintendo has remake fever. The publisher is currently on a hot streak as it revisits some of the series' cult classics. We got a strong remake of Super Mario RPG last November and a new version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is on the way this year. In-between those beloved titles, we're getting a full remake of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, a unique Game Boy Advance puzzle-platformer. It's something of a 20th-anniversary edition considering the original launched in 2004.

Ahead of its launch, I played through the remake's first four worlds. For the most part, they're 1:1 recreations of the original's levels, with a charming visual boost that's not far off from what we saw in Super Mario RPG. What I wouldn't realize at first, though, is that one of those worlds was an entirely new addition made for the remake. That's how naturally its new content slots in to a very faithful recreation.
Tiny changes
Like Super Mario RPG, Mario vs. Donkey Kong's Switch remake isn't trying to mess with fans' nostalgia. The core gameplay loop is entirely unchanged here: Mario moves through bite-sized 2D platforming levels turned into small puzzles. Each level has me finding a key and bringing it to a door, before sending me to a second screen where I need to rescue a mini Mario toy. I watched a YouTube video of the original game's World 1 after beating the remake's and it was almost identical.
