Why you should buy the Alienware x16 R2 gaming laptop

The Alienware x16 R2, the successor of the Alienware x16, is one of the fastest gaming laptops you can buy right now. This configuration combines the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card, which our gaming laptop buying guide considers as a top-tier GPU, with the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor and 32GB of RAM that our guide on how much RAM do you need says is necessary for streaming or running multiple apps while playing video games. With these specifications, the Alienware x16 R2 won’t have any issues in launching the best PC games at their most demanding settings, and you’ll have plenty of space to install them on its 2TB SSD with Windows 11 Home.

Our comparison between Alienware’s 16-inch gaming laptops — the Alienware x16 R2 versus Alienware m16 R2 — recommends the Alienware x16 R2 if you want top-tier performance, but only if you’re willing to go for the model with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card. That’s a more feasible option right now with Dell’s discount, and that power will be on full display on the gaming laptop’s Full HD+ screen with a 480Hz refresh rate.

If you’re looking to score a huge discount on a top-of-the-line model from gaming laptop deals, check out the Alienware x16 R2. Its configuration that features the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card is on sale from Dell for $2,700, for savings of $900 on its sticker price of $3,600. We’re not sure how much time is remaining on this offer though, so you need to hurry with completing your transaction for the Alienware x16 R2 gaming laptop if you want to get it for a price that’s lower than usual.

This $1,299 gaming PC wants to be a Steam Machine without waiting for Valve
Valve’s Steam Machine dream is already real in MetaPC's new prebuilt
MetaPC's Steamroller is a new Steam Machine rival

Valve’s Steam Machine may be the face of SteamOS, but the platform isn't exclusive to it. A big announcement after Steam Machine's unveiling was that SteamOS would be arriving on systems outside of the new hybrid console. Now, MetaPCs is one of the first to take advantage of this by opening the preorders for the Steamroller, a new prebuilt gaming desktop that ships with SteamOS installed by default.

Though Steamroller is not trying to be a tiny console-like cube. It is a normal desktop PC with standard parts and a real upgrade path. The system costs $1,299 and is listed with a preorder date of July 3, 2026.

A Chinese rip-off of the Steam Machine

Valve’s new Steam Machine has already caused plenty of sticker shock. So it's no surprise that a flood of cheaper alternatives is hitting the online market. Valve is currently charging over $1,000 for its tiny-living-room SteamOS PC, and of course, people are trying to offer the same feel for less money,

One listing from China is a great example, but it looks a little too suspicious. According to VideoCardz, a Steam Machine-style mini PC listing shared on Reddit claims to offer a compact SteamOS system with a 2TB SSD, AMD Ryzen 5 5500 processor, Radeon RX 6750 GRE 10GB graphics, 16GB of DDR5 memory, and a price of 4,680 RMB, or roughly $688. This sounds incredible... if it were true.
