The show will be a comedy in the style of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, starring Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Lake Bell (Boston Legal) as Cassius and Clay, respectively, living in a post-apocalyptic America. Oh, and they’re also bandits, of course.

Given the character descriptions it’s clear that this comedy will likely be suitable for adults only: Ordwood Cassius likes to down a few drinks (or more) and has a propensity towards stretching the truth. More specifically, she’s described as a “hard-drinking, quick-thinking, fast-talking bullsh–er who has more debts than sense.” Meanwhile, Shopcarter Clay is a trouble magnet of sorts, known as the “fastest gun in the post-apocalyptic South” who “doesn’t go looking for trouble, she shares a station wagon with it.”
Of course, the fact that FX is hosting the show is also a pretty strong indicator that Cassius & Clay (which borrows its title from Muhammad Ali’s original name) will likely offer plenty of adult themes, which will no doubt compliment the voice actors lined up for the series to create some raucous comedy. There’s also some familiar chemistry in the works as Tambor, who is perhaps best known as George from Arrested Development, has been a regular guest star on Archer.
Along with Sarandon, Tambor, Olson, and Bell, the show will also feature comedian JB Smoove, Kevin Michael Richardson (The Cleveland Show), Stephen Root (Office Space), Katy Mixon (Mike & Molly), and Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day). Ganz and Reed will both write and executive produce the project together, alongside Reed’s animation studio Floyd County Productions.
No premiere date has been announced for the pilot as of yet, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one so stay tuned.
