Starz, Showtime, and more can now be added to your Amazon Prime account

Amazon is making cord cutting easier than ever: The company launched its new Streaming Partners Program today, allowing members to purchase streaming subscriptions from premium networks like Showtime, Starz, and more through an Amazon Prime account.

The new program seeks to address the transformation of how people consume TV today. “The way people watch TV is changing, and customers need an easier way to subscribe to and enjoy multiple streaming subscriptions,” said Michael Paull, vice president of digital video, in a press release.

With the Streaming Partners Program, members will be able to sample Amazon’s partner services through free trials, and then opt to sign up for a month-to-month subscription with self-cancellation, if desired. The program also offers special bundled pricing on new channels. A Showtime subscription on Amazon, for example, is priced at $9 a month, whereas consumers will pay $11 a month for Showtime’s stand alone streaming service on iTunes and Google Play.

New episodes of shows will be available as soon as their broadcast starts, and users will be able to watch from any of their compatible devices. Along with giving Prime members access to a ton of new content, the add-on subscriptions create a bundling blueprint of sorts for the cord-cutting set who still want access to premium network shows. To simplify how subscribers manage their content, Amazon has enabled searching and browsing across subscriptions, along with the ability to maintain a single Watchlist.

This is a terrific product for customers to conveniently navigate their entertainment options quickly, easily and anywhere,” said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht.

So far, Amazon’s partners include Showtime, Starz, and select properties from A+E Network, AMC, Gaia, RLJ Entertainment, DramaFever, Tribeca Short List, Cinedigm, Smithsonian, IndieFlix, Curiosity Stream, Qello, FlixFling, BroadbandTV, DEFY Media, Gravitas, and Ring TV Boxing. The biggest missing piece here is HBO Now, which normally runs subscribers $15 per month, and could be a very enticing addition if Amazon could knock the price down for Prime members.

Admittedly, some of the new choices are more tempting than others, but the beauty is in being to select those that you actually want, rather than being forced to buy a bundle. The online retailer plans to continue to add more partners. Could HBO be next? We’ll keep an eye on this story, and update as more partners come on board.

What’s new on Amazon Prime Video in April 2024
A woman holding her hand up to the sun in a scene from Fallout.

April has arrived on Amazon Prime Video, and Fallout is about to begin. Prime Video's biggest addition this month is the series premiere of Fallout, which will adapt the post-apocalyptic world of the hit video games with a dark sense of humor. And in a departure from Prime Video's most recent big releases, all eight episodes of Fallout will premiere on April 11.

Fortunately, that's not all Prime Video has to offer in April. Fan-favorite TV shows like House and Eureka are arriving this month, as is last year's horror revival, The Exorcist: Believer. Prime Video's film library is also expanding with Chinatown, Fighting with My Family, Memoirs Of A Geisha, Out of Sight, The Big Short, The Notebook, The Station Agent, and more.

A man leans on a wooden beam in Fallout.

When it comes to having a wide selection of shows to choose from, Amazon Prime Video is a good place to start. Along with the streaming service's own originals, you can also watch tons of network shows new and old, including classic TV series, with your subscription. This month, Amazon is adding its newest original Fallout to the mix. Based on the popular video game franchise, it's arguably one of the most anticipated new shows this year.

If you're looking for something to watch, don't let the Prime Video part of your Amazon Prime subscription go to waste (you can also, it should be noted, sign up for Prime Video on its own). Browse the library, and you're bound to find something great. If you want to make sure the show you choose doesn't require an add-on channel subscription, see this list. It includes the best shows on Amazon Prime Video right now, all of which are available with your base subscription.

Zombies infiltrate a train in Train to Busan.

If you love horror, sometimes all you really need to know about a movie is what it's about. Train to Busan, a 2016 Korean zombie movie, is admittedly a great movie for those who love horror as a genre. But the film, which is set to leave Amazon Prime Video at the end of March, is also much more than just the basics of the zombie genre.

Since its release nearly a decade ago, the film has become one of the most beloved foreign films ever to come to America, and it's easy to see why. Here are three reasons you should be sure to check it out on Prime Video before it leaves at the end of March:
