Branching out? Airbnb most wished-for property type is a treehouse

There are treehouse resorts and hotels in Thailand, the Amazon, and Costa Rica, but Americans don’t have to travel to another country to sleep amongst the leaves. The most-wished-for spot on Airbnb’s Wish List is the Secluded Intown Treehouse in Atlanta, Georgia, according to the company’s analysis of its own data.

Maybe it’s because treehouses are the most popular type of housing people have on their Wish Lists, which is the feature visitors use to save and share properties for upcoming or dream trips. Treehouses rank number one above igloos, vans, lighthouses, and caves, which round out the top five. People are apparently more excited to stay in a van down by a river than on an entire train, which landed at number eight.

The treehouse in Atlanta is $350 a night for three rooms connected by rope bridges. The bathroom is in the basement of the owner’s home, but there is Wi-Fi.

Another treehouse, in Alessandria, Italy also made it to the top of the Wish Lists, at number five. That one turns out to be a little less pricey, at $157 a night. Airbnb also compiled a list of cities with the highest percent of listings on Wish Lists. The top three places are Belize City, Belize; Okinawa, Japan; and Savannah, Georgia.

People are also dying to stay in a range of other unique properties, like the Seashell House in Mexico, which is an accurate description of its exterior. Another aptly named property is the Mushroom Dome Cabin in Aptos, California, where you can convene with nature for $110 a night. Strangely enough, none of these are vans, or igloos — though there is one of those in Austria that you can rent for $59 a night.

SimpliSafe is now using AI to prevent burglars from entering your home
A SimpliSafe outdoor camera monitoring a stranger.

SimpliSafe rolled out the Smart Alarm Indoor Camera in 2023, which coupled AI technology with live monitoring to better protect the inside of your home. The company is now looking to expand those features to outdoor cameras, with Live Guard Outdoor Protection rolling out to early access users before seeing a full-scale launch later this year.

Live Guard Outdoor Protection works much like the Smart Alarm Indoor Camera does, though it's been modified to work outside. When your system is armed, cameras equipped with Live Guard Outdoor Protection will use AI to identify threats on your property. If AI finds something suspicious, the event will be escalated to SimpliSafe's professional monitoring team, who can then intervene via two-way audio to let the intruder know they're being filmed. They can also trigger a siren or request police dispatch.

Why you should buy the BLUETTI AC240 all-weather portable power station

Imagine for a moment that you're camping with your family, hiking through the great outdoors, or even taking a long, scenic road trip through the countryside. In all of these situations, even when you're off-grid, you'll still need reliable access to power to charge your phone and tablet(s) and power up other electronics -- like a coffee maker when you wake up in the morning. Of course, power stations and power outlets don't exist randomly out in the wild. You could use your vehicle, but that will drain the battery and, in some cases, still won't provide enough power for what you want to do. Cue the BLUETTI AC240 portable power station and devices like it.
