Watch the NBC trailer that has 40 million Facebook views and counting

NBC’s upcoming dramedy series This Is Us has received an unusually warm welcome. In the trailer’s first week, it has been viewed 40 million times on the show’s Facebook page, which smashes the previous record for an upfront week, Deadline reports. Factoring in other platforms, such as YouTube and NBC.com, drives the number up, reportedly bringing it to almost 60 million views.

The numbers for This Is Us are impressive on their own, but they become still more so with additional context. Compared to its upfront competition during the seven-day period, the trailer is is far and away the most popular on Facebook. Fox’s Prison Break is at a distant second with around 23 million views.

Also noteworthy is how much more attention This Is Us has garnered on the social media site compared to the typical new series. The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow previously held the freshman show trailer record, and its 4.1 million Facebook video views during last year’s upfront week look downright paltry in comparison. And, as a spinoff from Arrow and The Flash, that show brought with it a pre-existing fan base.

It remains to be seen if This Is Us will be able to live up to the hype, of course, but the trailer does look promising. Created by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love), the multiple intersecting storylines are handled well in the glimpse we get from the preview. The issues that are touched on — becoming a parent, weight struggles, love, loss, and more — seem powerful and relatable, and clearly, they have been resonating with viewers.

Interestingly, while there are familiar faces, you wouldn’t assume the ensemble cast to drive the kind of response that the trailer has gotten. The series stars Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, and Sterling K. Brown, among others.

We’ll get to see more when This Is Us premieres in the fall on NBC.

On March 15, 2015, the most infamous hot mic moment ever to air on television shocked the world. Real estate scion Robert Durst, who had been implicated, but had thus far escaped justice in three murders committed from 1982 to 2003, inexplicably agreed to sit for a series of interviews with filmmaker Andrew Jarecki. The director had made a fictional feature film, All Good Things, that was loosely based on the disappearance of Durst’s first wife, Kathie, starring Barbie actor Ryan Gosling and Civil War's Kirsten Dunst.

Confronted, finally, with near-irrefutable evidence collected by Jarecki’s team that seemed to implicate Durst in the murder of his best friend Susan Berman in 2001, Durst lumbered off to the bathroom, where, forgetting his microphone was still on, he murmured, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.” Such was the ending of The Jinx, a phenomenon for HBO when it aired more than nine years ago. But there was more story still to tell, and Jarecki’s follow-up, The Jinx: Part Two, now airing on HBO and streaming on Max, bucks the odds by sustaining the intensity and pure weirdness with which The Jinx concluded nearly a decade ago.

While straight action films like John Wick are far from extinct, it's the action comedies that tend to become the popular box office hits. Movie fans just love to laugh at the funny parts while enjoying the accompanying action. Not every action comedy is created equal, and Hollywood has admittedly gone to the well with the buddy-cop movies a little bit too often.

This weekend, The Fall Guy is the latest action comedy to attempt to give the genre some fresh blood, even though it's technically based on a TV series from the '80s that has largely been forgotten. It would be too easy to load up this list with films from the '80s and '90s, when action comedies were at their peak.
