Iran has a quite fascinating culture. It’s controlled by a fascist theocracy that wants things a certain way but is filled with young people who hate the way they’re forced to live. The dichotomy makes for some interesting cultural creations.

Asghar Farhadi is a popular Iranian director, both inside and outside of his country. His fourth film is A Separation. The film is set in contemporary Iran about the dissolution of a marriage. Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh. She sues for divorce when he refuses to leave his father who is suffering from Alzheimers. The wife leaveas but Termeh decides to stay with her father. 

Nader hires a young woman to assist with his father in his wife’s absence. However, he discovers that the new maid has been lying to him. He realizes that there may be more on the line than just his marriage.

A Separation is set for a December 30 limited release.
