Svelte footprint, excellent performance.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dyson - Purifier Humidify + Cool Autoreact PH3A Summary: Svelte footprint, excellent performance. Pros: * Svelte. As with all Dyson devices, this unit features a classic Dyson look that is clean and sophisticated. * Easy maintenance. Dyson has went to great lengths to make this unit serviceable. The multiple chambers can be released with easy to access latches. * Excellent performance. At maximum settings, this unit can move quite a bit of air. It works well and can cool the surrounds by a few degrees easily (though I did not measure). * Redesigned articulation. Rather than have the entire unit rotate as with some of its cousins. This unit has rotating flow redirectors built into the air multiplier assembly. Additionally, air can be pushed through these articulating forward facing vents, or through the back for indirect flow. Not having the whole base moves reduces wear and tear and another source of potential noise. * Solid base/ water reservoir. This unit feels markedly sturdy. The water reservoir has little wheels to make positioning/insertion easier. It is a substantial amount of water and can last all day depending on your space conditions (humidity/heat/etc.). Cons: * No smart capabilities (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth control). Dyson units have been rolling out with smart capabilities for a while. I have one of their older models (fan only) and the smart functions are a must (scheduling, reacting to home conditions). This unit DOES NOT FEATURE SMART CAPABILTIES - I should have paid more attention. Given the times and for this price point, it is a huge let down. * A weird and proprietary power supply. Why? Why such a proprietary power supply? They didn't save much on space. Not a con, per say, but something that can't be swapped out easily should it fail. Use: We used this in our master bedroom. We have pets and purifiers in other spaces, but the master bedroom is where we wanted to focus - since sleep quality is important. The cool but humidified and HEPA filtered air helps with that. Using localized air flow (sparing HVAC) definitely works well for us. Notes: I'd wait for a smart version. I gave up on keeping an array of remotes and using wall switches a long time ago - this feels like a step back for me. But right now, the benefit outweighs the inconvenience.

The natural cool breeze mimicry is delightful!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Allergy season is upon us and this new Dyson air purifier has been a welcome addition to our master bedroom. Sleeping with the Dyson in the room has helped both my husband and me to feel more refreshed when we wake up. It seems like my eyes aren’t as “sleepy”, and I don’t have the typical morning sneezing and hacking that I’ve had during previous allergy seasons. The unit came nicely packaged in an all cardboard box with cardboard inserts to keep it snugly in place during shipment. Dyson did a great job securely packaging this, while using all paper based materials, except for a couple plastic bags. I really appreciate this because recycling cardboard is much easier and cheaper for me than throwing away styrofoam. It’s also much better for the planet. Which is also why they chose not to include a user manual in the box. Just a few quick-start pamphlets with directions on where to download the user manual. Topping off the feature list for this 3-in-1 Dyson unit is the “Purifier”. I can say that the filter works incredibly well and detects dust, allergens and other air pollutants as soon as they come within contact of the machine. If you have the Dyson set to auto, and shake out an old dusty jacket, or wipe off a high shelf, the machine will detect the dust, increasing the fan speed to quickly clean the air. You can also see the uptick in detected particles/dust on the LCD screen when looking at one of the Particulate Matter information display modes, of which there are two, PM2.5 and PM10. You can also monitor other air pollutants such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), and overall Indoor Air Quality (AQI). The AQI reading is a measure of your air quality over the last 12 seconds or the last 24 hours. The fan on this Dyson, which is the “Cool”, is delightful! I love that I can use the remote to easily change the direction and velocity of the breeze it produces. And it really does feel like a cool outdoor breeze, only much cleaner and at the perfect humidity level. There are 3 modes to choose from. Fan mode, which can blow straight forward, or oscillate at your choice of either a 45 or 90 degree angle. The next mode is Diffuse Mode, which sends the air backward to clean the room without cooling. The final mode, my favorite, is Breeze Mode. Breeze Mode simulates a natural cooling breeze by desynchronizing the oscillation speed and angle of the air flow on each side of the Amplifier Loop. The final feature of this Dyson is the “Humidify”. I didn’t think it would make much of a difference in my household air quality but it really has! The atmosphere in the room where this Dyson is being used just feels more comfortable. My eyes don’t feel dry as often, and my skin isn’t as itchy. I’m sure the effect will be even more noticeable during the winter. And, not only do I benefit, but my plant benefits as well. I’ve been meaning to buy an indoor humidifier to improve their overall growth, and now I have one! The air purifier uses one HEPA+ Carbon filter, which comes as two separate pieces, one for each side. The filter is estimated to last 12 months and is currently priced at $79.99 on the Dyson website. You need to manually reset the filter life on the Dyson, after replacing the filter, using the remote. Other units at this price point will auto-detect a new filter. There is also a permanent catalytic filter at the core/base of the unit, that should never need to be replaced. I’m not sure if this is the same piece being described at another point in the User Manual as the “evaporator” or if that is something different? Either way, neither should ever need to be replaced. The Dyson comes with a few descaling packets and instructions on how and when to deep clean the machine to remove any limescale buildup. In hard water areas you may need to run the Deep clean cycle more frequently and they recommend using filtered water to get the best performance. The Dyson will alert you on the LCD screen when a deep clean is needed. I’ve not gotten to that point, but the instructions are clear and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be very hard to perform. I’m a big fan of the Dyson look and I think their design team did a good job finding a balance between performance and aesthetics when creating this unit. It is three feet tall, but the footprint of the base is minimal at only one foot diameter. The white and silver design matches my home decor perfectly and the signature Dyson loop is eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing. Using the device is easy, but there is a bit of a learning curve at first. I highly suggest downloading the user manual and watching all of the user tutorial videos available on the Dyson website. There are quite a few available and all of them are helpful. I do want to point out a couple areas for improvement though. I suggest better materials for the remote in the future. This one feels like cheap plastic and mine is already dented with a paint chip, from falling just over one foot onto a tile floor. I also wish Dyson would have built the power supply into the unit, not onto the end of the power cord where it plugs into the wall. The power supply for this Dyson is huge, clunky and takes up quite a bit of space. The power supply is just over 4.25” long by 1.5” wide and is just over 2.5” deep. Another let down is that there is no wi-fi for this device, which IMO, at this price point, it should have. The LCD screen is small and there is a lot of information. It would be much easier to read the data and navigate the modes via a smartphone. That being said, I do have too many wi-fi devices already and who has room for yet another app on their phone? LOL So maybe it doesn’t bother me too much. I’m quite pleased with this new purifier, humidity and cooling, all-in-one, Dyson. I am sleeping better with it in the bedroom and the natural cooling breeze mimicry is convincing enough to close your eyes, imagine a real breeze, and drift off to sleep. An allergen, dust and harmful gas free sleep!

We are obsessed!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When we first received the purifier, we had no idea what our air quality was. Upon installing it, and turning it on, we noticed that our air quality wasn’t as good as it should be. Within 1 week of using it, our air quality has improved dramatically. I definitely feel much better about my home. We have many animals, and a big family. It’s made our home a place we love to come back too. Our guests, also, love coming to our home. It no longer smells of dog , and dust!

Expensive But Effective
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve used the Dyson TP04 tower fan for about 4 years now and I’ve always thought it was too expensive, but it worked very well. I feel the same way about the PH3A. It does its job of cooling and purifying the air just as well as the TP04 with the added benefit of also being a humidifier. If you are looking for all 3 of those things in a single device I can start to see the value proposition here and it does all 3 things well. The lack of WiFi is somewhat disappointing for such an expensive machine though. Getting into the box, the initial setup is pretty simple. The fan doesn’t require any assembly and just has some tape and cardboard blockers in place that need to be removed to seat the filters. From there, the only thing left to do is to fill the water tank and it’s ready to go. On an unrelated note I did appreciate how much cardboard was incorporated into the packaging and it’s almost completely recyclable - no bulky styrofoam filling up the trash can. Using the machine is about as simple as it gets and with both the purify and humidfy mode set to auto there’s no input required really. You can cycle through various screens to see measurements on air quality and humidity. If you’re using an air purifier for the first time the measurements can be startling, especially if you are cooking or doing something that’s releasing a lot of particulates into the air, but the machine does an excellent job of getting the air quality back to good. It’s also nice in that it gives you a general sense of what the air quality is around your home. I know I’m overdue to replace some other filters and will be doing that soon based on the readings I’ve gotten from this machine. Living in the Pacific NW, the humidify function isn’t as critical to me, but set to auto my wife has definitely noticed the improvement in the air in our living room compared to our old tower fan. My TP04 fan rotated the entire filter/blade assembly about its circular base. It would also wobble quite a bit when it was bumped into and sometimes error out if something got next to it and prevented the assembly from turning. The PH3A has a substantially wider base and only the thin vertical slits within the blades rotate; it’s much more stable by comparison. Unfortunately the PH3A has lost a feature from my tower fan in that it doesn’t seem to have WiFi connectivity or work with the Dyson Link app. That’s a shame, but at the same time I have grown somewhat fatigued with every device I own needing its own dedicated app, so in that sense it could be considered a plus as the functionality in the app for my TP04 was pretty basic anyway. Still though, it would have been nice to be able to add it to the app I already have for my other Dyson fan. One other drawback of owning a Dyson product is the replacement materials are very expensive - I do not yet know what the filter life of the PH3A will be, but I replace the filter in my TP04 about every 8-12 months and the filters cost around $80 each time. I’ve tried going 3rd party on the filters in the past to save money, but I have has problems with those filters and would not recommend it. The PH3A with its humidifier also requires regular cleaning with a descaling solution, but fortunately Dyson does provide some packets of that material with the fan. Overall I think the PH3A is a really good product. Whenever I tell my friends how great these things are and I mention the cost they always recoil and I do think you are paying somewhat of a premium for Dyson, but if you are specifically looking for this type of product you will not be disappointed with it.

Dyson 3-in1 Product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the Dyson Product I didn't know I needed. It is a air purifyer, humidifyer and fan all in one. I am currenlty using it in my master bedroom and I was able to replace my fan and and air purifyer and add the humidifier which I needed. The best thing about the Dyson Purifier Humidify + Cool Autoreact is that you can just set it and forget it. It has an auto button and it will self adjust to the settings it needs. It was very easy to unpack and set up. You just fill the bottom with water, plug in and turn it on. I like to leave it on auto mode. The remote is very slim easy to use. I keep the doors to the closed for best results. The technology on this is unbelievable. It senses and reports, automatically. It had sensors analyzing the air, it diagnoses the pollutants and and displays them on the LCD. The HEPA filter captures gases and unltra fine particles. Dyson Ultraviolet Cleanse technology exposes every drop of water to a UV light, removing 99.9% of bacteria in the water to hygienically humidify. It has a fully sealed HEPA system - so what goes inside, stays inside. Features: Circulates purified humidified air Cools when you need it Auto Mode Continuious Humidificaiton Nightmode Backwards Airflow mode Breeze mode Jet Axis Control Deep Clean Cycle Simple Filter Change I look forward to seeing a reduction in allergy issues. wiht the use of this machine.

Expensive but effective air purifier/humidifier
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.IN THE BOX The box is large, that’s because the purifier itself is large. Included is obviously the purifier, AC cable for power, instruction manual, and a box of 3 cleaning agents to clean out the water bin for the purifier. There’s also a small remote. SETTING UP The device comes put together, but has a lot of easy to remove tape holding the various compartments together during shipment. After removing the tape, I got a feel for how it comes apart, and how one might change the filters, etc. After perusing the instruction manual, which like most Dyson products is simple and full of instructive photos, the only thing left to set up is to fill up the reservoir tank with water and plug it in. It comes with preinstalled filters. It’s recommended that it be placed in the room you spend the most time in, away from the wall and any air registers. I just want to make one other comment that the whole device is intuitively designed. As in, it’s easy to figure out how to replace the filters and fill up the water reservoir. FEATURES AND EASE OF USE This is a multi-use machine. It purifiers the air, it puts out cool air, and humidifies the air. From best I can tell, it can do all things at once, or one at a time. You can turn the humidifier off and turn the cool air down and it will still pull air from the room and “clean it.” It can also blow cool air without humidifying it. When you plug it in, the color screen turns on. Frankly, I found the screen to be a tad bit overwhelming. Again, never having owned a humidifier before, I didn’t really know what measurements the device was telling me. Luckily, there’s a nice owners manual with pictures to illustrate what everything means. It shows the indoor air quality, particulate matter (think, smoke, bacteria and allergens, dust and dander). It can also tell you the relative humidity as well as the target humidity. And lastly, the rooms’ indoor temperature. It’s a lot of info, but luckily, you can set the humidifier and cool air to automatic. The levels of pollutants in the air is also easy to tell and goes from green (good) to red (poor). It even goes to severe which tells you there’s a severe level of type of pollutant (which I hope to never see in real life). Point is, the menu can give you a lot of useful information for your room. And with a little reading of the manual, you can easily figure out what the various menus mean. To cycle through the menus you use your remote, which like the device itself, is intuitive and easy to use. PERFORMANCE So, I have two cats at home. I have skin allergies. I’ve only ever owned one other air purifier that I keep in my bedroom. For the Dyson, I decided to put it in our living room. The purifier definitely “sticks out” in our living room, it’s relatively big, but it looks nice at the same time. It looks like an additional piece of furniture and really kind of blends in to the point you forget it’s there (I mean that to a point, not literally). Point is, it’s not bad to have to look at. I’ve never owned a humidifier, which are used to put moisture in the air to prevent dryness in the body. Typically, I’ve always thought it best to use humidifiers in the winter when the air is driest. But Dyson recommends running it year round. They also help people with skin conditions (like myself). You can search the internet for other benefits of a humidifier, but the point is that it can help year round. I’ve had mine for about a week now, and it’s hard to give good evidence how well its affected me. I can say my living room sometimes gets hot in the summer, and it’s been pretty comfortable, but it also hasn’t been that hot outside where I live. The humidity level is leveling out, but I really haven’t had it long enough to say one way or the other whether it improves my life. If nothing else, in my mind, it seems as if the air is cleaner (at least in the living room area). That should count for something. The pollutant level has been in the green, but that could be that there weren’t any in there to begin with. When set to automatic, the device isn’t too loud. When I first turned it on, it was pretty loud (and the water container drained almost completely in one day) but after the room got to baseline in terms of temperature and humidity, it got much quieter - barely over a whisper. My guess is that it was working hard until the levels evened out and now it’s just maintaining. If you put it in your bedroom, it would definitely be heard - and if you’re one that wants dead silence to sleep - it might be a bother. If you like white noise, you might actually prefer the sound of it operating. It does, however, have a night mode and sleep timer where in the former it runs at the quietest setting and the latter it turns off after so long. Without other scientific ways of testing the air quality in my house, it’s hard to say how effective the device is. But I am an optimist and assume that it works as intended in terms of cleaning the air and humidifying. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND As with all humidifiers and air purifiers, it’s not something you can just plug in and never touch again - even on automatic settings. You have to change the filters and at times, deep clean the water container. The Dyson website says the filter generally needs to replace every 1 year, which isn’t bad, and the water tank will humidify for 36 hours in the lowest fan mode setting. Dyson recommends deep cleaning the water tank when prompted on the device which can be as frequently as once a month if your water is hard and less for areas that has softer water. (apparently the device knows best). Dyson also suggests using its cleaners to run a deep cycle. Which increases the maintenance costs. A replacement filter is $80 while the deep cleaners aren’t easily found on the internet. Luckily, you can make your own mixture with citric acid. So the maintenance costs aren’t terrible, but something to keep in mind. There are other purifiers out there with cheaper filters. CONCLUSION Dyson makes high quality products that you definitely pay a premium for. That’s not to say you don’t get what you pay for, there’s just cheaper alternatives out there. But Dyson products are known for their high quality, good looks, and dependability. If you are in need of a humidifier for a large room, this is certainly one that should be on top of your list. Its maintenance schedule is more than reasonable and it’s easy to use and maintain.

Pricey and did not find the humidity cooling
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the warmer weather quickly approaching in Florida, a fan with a cooling feature sounded good, but seeing humidifying as part of the cooling left me a bit curious/concerned. TL; DR for my frequent readers: Pros: Nice clean look Fan power Water reservoir has wheels to slide out of the fan base Cons: Oscillation can be noisy/creaky only after 2 days of use Humidity is expected to be on, needs to be turned off every time Very small (easy to misplace) remote No App No scheduling to run the air purifier overnight if wanted Meh: Can’t easily stop oscillation on a fixed position Size When this huge box arrived, I had no idea what I got myself into because the description made it look like a table top fan. When I unpacked it, I could see that it was darn close to the size of the box (see pic). The filters appear to be good quality and easy to replace when the time comes. I’ll save you from the box and packaging images, but unpacking it was a breeze and the remote was easily located. Once removed, there isn’t an easy way to move the fan, like a handle, as the unit is pretty awkward and heavy. I like to follow the directions for new products so if things go wrong, I can claim “lack of documentation” but in this case, all was well. Fill the bottom with water, set it to auto and go. Once running, the temperature adjusted and as it gauged the current humidity, and started noisily intaking water to start moistening up the room. Like most floor standing fans, this also has an oscillating feature, but different. I’ve never had a Dyson fan before and was expecting the big oval to move around, but it doesn’t. Flaps on the outside of the unit move back and forth to move the air around based on the selected mode — 45 or 90 degree movement. There’s a catch, however! The flaps move at different speeds at different times, so it’s difficult to stop the oscillation at a specific point because they don’t sync up. The left flap could be fast and the other side slow — so while nice to have varying air movement, it can be a pain to stop it where you want. In the time that I used the fan to write the review, I did notice creaking of the fan flaps after only a few days. Hearing that so early on, I question the longevity and when the noises may start to become more constant. The speeds from 1 to 10 do offer a nice range for your comfort. At different numbers, the fan does tend to admit strange sounds (See video). While audibly it does appear the 10 is much louder than 1, after normal use of the high fan speeds, the sound doesn’t appear as noticeable as it did in the beginning when I wasn’t used to it. Next, is the humidifying capability. In my use case, it was a relatively small room (about 12 x 12) and I found that the lowest humidification setting, around 30%, still made the room quite humid to the point where I could feel the moisture on my hands so I quickly turned off the humidifying feature and left it as just for the fan. Cycling through the informational menus gives insight to a whole bunch of the environmental Pollutants that we may be breathing and the current levels being picked up by the air purifier. One of the modes that you can select is an air purifier specific mode where the fan doesn’t blow forward it blows out the back and up as a traditional air purifier would. I think I would like this unit more, if they were an app to control things like scheduling air purifier mode to run in the morning, before I start work. Overall, I do like the fan but I’m not too thrilled about the humidifier portion even if it’s supposed to add a cooling humidity I didn’t find it very comfortable. Do I recommend this fan? I’d have to say no, given the cost and lack of scheduling or an App.
