- A: AnswerI'm not using it for Time Machine, but to back up my music and video projects. I did not have to reformat the drive to do this. I use a WD Passport 2GB for my Time Machine backups and I don't recall having to format that one either.

Western Digital 4T Mac ext. drive is a touchdown!
Compact, light, runs very cool, silent, has fast transfer rates with USB 3.0 and worked out of the box for my Mac Book Pro. A perfectly portable drive - I use one for transferring videos to others I work with, and another as a Time Machine drive. Can't go wrong with this baby!

A Dream to Have
I never knew how much I needed a hard drive in my life especially for editing videos. Works amazingly but I would suggest buying a different cable for it. Mine stop working after 3 days of having it but I was able to buy a cheap one on Amazon and haven’t had any problems ever since.
