This is an awesome game. Worth every cent. Recommended! I bought this for my son and his friend so they could play on PS4. I played it and it's great. My personal copy in on Steam which is also great. I mostly play PVE but it has a huge PVP system. Imagine a Minecraft/DayZ/Horror game with descent graphics and more realistic physics. Things fall if you don't reinforce the frame or base of building properly, plus mines will collapse. Every 7 Days a massive hoard come after you and it progressively gets worse. All zombies run at night, some run during the day. Zombie Dogs, Zombie Bears, Zombie Vultures, and various types of animals and zombies including some with special abilities like climbing walls or the banshee that summons more zombies unless you put her down quick. It has a random world generator based in Arizona with all Biomes, Towns, Cities, Skyscapers, Caves, or just the wilds of each biome. They still call it an Alpha game as it is not finished but it plays better than finished games.I've played video games since the 80's so I've played many games over the years, and many currently. I play this game with friends by making a multiplayer game and allowing them to join(similar to Minecraft). This game cannot be modded on the PS4 as of yet. Modding is common on the PC as the game is easy to Mod.

I never played on PC but since the console release I've sunk a lot of hours into this game, so at thirty dollars this game was money well spent. Admittedly the game is far from perfect so let me just hit the highlights.

Pros:
-Crafting is really well done, there's a lot to make and for the most part required materials and such are pretty intuitive.

-large pre built world to explore as well as randomly generated worlds.

-food and water are important enough to make it realistic but not so rigorous that the game revolves around your next meal.

- zombies are easy (easier) to kill during the day but at night they quickly get dangerous which helps to drive the tower defense and base design aspect of the game. This is by far where I've spent the most time, although I'm yet to find a base that works better than a pit.

Cons:
-graphics are extremely out dated, you should know this going in. At first it bothered me but I got used to it quickly.

-body temperature is extremely important but not intuitive nor is there a rational heat gradient on the map. Once you get used to it you can work around it but I spent the first hour of game play mostly dying of heat while laying naked in a river.

- opening tutorial consists of a few quick crafting challenges but doesn't cover anything you really need to know to survive. In my case since I spawned in the burnt forest the plant fiber clothes I had to put on were actively killing me.

- placing or interacting with objects on uneven terrain can be really glitchy (water is even worse), which is by no means a game breaker but it makes what should be simple interactions in the game extremely frustrating.

-once you can handle a 7 day horde there really isn't much more you can do in a single player game. There are extra challenges you can find but so far the ones I've found are more tedious than anything else.

7 Days to Die finds its way to the consoles from the PC so how does it stand-up to other games like it? To preface the review, I'm a huge fan of survival horror and have always wanted an console open world experience. Worrying about zombies, hydration, starvation, sickness, temperature, and bodily injury, all while under the time constraint of a visitation from zombie horde every 7 days is a welcome experience. Especially since there aren't many games on the console market that fit this specific niche, it's a relief to have the title in existence. Working under such conditions is were the game really shines because it forces you to engage with the world to find resources to, for example, remedy a sprained ankle, cure being infected, find food and water, and to find weapons and blueprints/books/schematics to improve your range of crafting. The game also offers co-op online and local split-screen so you don't have to go it alone (local coop is always a plus). Allocating skill points, building a base that can withstand the force of the horde, and grinding for supremacy amongst the forces of the environment are always good fun alone or with company.

I will not mention graphics because gameplay is the core of any GAME.

Now there are numerous problems with the gameplay. The major issues that I and most other people have with this game are the frame rate drops and glitches in the game. There is no reason for a game in 2016 to have the frame rate issues that 7 Days to Die has, especially for a game that has been out for the PC for years. This hampers the gameplay because you can be killed in a heated enemy encounter because the game will momentarily freeze due to frame rate drop. In terms of glitches, there is one really frustrating example I have. You read books/schematics to gain access to crafting of whatever item the book/schematic is for. I've found SMG and Pistol schematics but it doesn't come up in my assemble options. Zombies walking on air, getting wet while your clearly indoors during the rain, falling down ladders when you climb down them, etc.

Combat is another issue in itself. Anything that can be used as a melee weapon struggles in this game. There is a significant lack of hit confirmation while fighting an enemy as enemies or your character don't always react to you actually landing a hit. It creates a gray area of melee combat in which you're wasting stamina swing at the air NEAR the enemy rather than actually landing a hit. I prefer ranged combat personally, however enemies take a decent amount of ammo to take down so using a gun sometimes is not a sustainable way of taking care of business.

Conclusion: it's $30 (or a little less depending on your prime status), it's glitchy, combat can be ineffective at times, but it's honestly good fun with so much potential. Updates are necessary for these issues and for this game to actually evolve into something that it's meant to be.

My recommendation: Follow the road until you find a town. Loot, set up shop, and get ready for the 7th day. Oh yes, always go for the supply drops... always...

Bough this game to play with a friend. After trying to party up in the game for a half hour and getting error messages we looked up what the problem was. The online servers were shut down a month ago in September. You can not play this game online. Wouldn't have purchased if I had know this beforehand. I most likely will never play this by myself. Waste of money.
