I contacted customer service to ask about compatibility with a Williams wall furnace (millivolt) and I made clear I planned to use an external power supply. They informed me I should NOT order because the thermostat would not work.
I ordered it anyway, as I could simply return it for free in case it didn't work and I'm glad I did it. The Ecobee premium works beautifully well with millivolt systems + external 24 volt AC power supply.
Installation was extremely easy, no relays needed, noting else needed.

Everything works beautifully since the first moment.
It has alexa built in it, which adds convenience. No more yelling from the living room so alexa (ecoshow in the bedroom) could listen.
The remote sensor is the best addition ever, as I can sense the temperature in my bedroom and ignore the living room at night. This way, if I close the bedroom door, my bedroom won't turn into an oven and I don't need to heat up a room I'm not using. It's visible my furnace is running average 60% less, keeping my bedroom at very accurate selected temperature.
The best of all was my gas bill. In a month I was able to notice an abysmal reduction on my gas usage. Thebgas bill dropped OVER 100 dollars and the only change was the thermostat. The weather even got colder after I changed to Ecobee and even so my gas bill dropped impressively.
