Plans vs Zombies is absolutely one of my favorite videogames of all time, and I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600 up through modern games (and I still own lots of retro systems including said Atari!). It's very easily in my top 5 of all time.

It just has so much love, care, and fun put into it. It's full of wonderful humor that doesn't get old (I've probably completed the game 100 times or more). The animations are extremely funny and wonderfully done. The sound effects and voices are a kill.

And most importantly, the gameplay is progressive, interesting, challenging, changing, and addictive as all get out. If you've not read up on it, the premise is that you place plants in your yard who defend your house from attacking zombies. You collect sunlight with which to buy more and different plants who have various attacks, and the zombies change from wave to wave in terms of what type of attack they have. Some plant examples are pea shooters that gun down zombies, a squash who jumps up and crushes down on them, and a garlic clove who causes zombies who bite into it to make a barfing noise and move to another row (allowing you to safely plant other non attacking plants such as sun-gathering sunflowers behind it). Some of the zombie attackers include a pole-vaulting zombie who can jump over plants, a miner zombie who can dig under your defenses to attack behind the lines, and a football zombie who wears protective gear and is tough to take down.

You really owe it to yourself to at least try a demonstration of this wonderful game. I own it both for my phone and kindle, as well as for my Xbox 360 via download (I still really like playing games on the big screen). It's a real shame that the game's designer, George Fan, got fired by Electronic Arts before the sequel came out. The sequel looks fun, but makes you pay real $ for special attacks which are basically absolutely necessary to get anywhere in the game; it's a huge rip off. By comparison, this game is pure, it is beautiful, it makes me happy, and I've bought plush toys from the PopCap website, I've bought a PVZ pinball table for another game on Xbox 360 as well as PvZ themes, and have been very happy to have supported this great piece of video game art.

Starting from a simple and fun premise - a plant shooting peas at a slowly shuffling zombie - the game grows through what amounts to a learning campaign to introduce all the characters. It also introduces a few "mini-games", which look like one-off levels in the campaign, but each of which get mini-campaigns of their own. And mini-games are one of several game sub-types, each of which get their own mini-campaigns.

There is a great wealth of cleverly wrought game time here, with plenty of strategic and tactical opportunities for play styles and methods of beating levels. The mini-games are fabulous, with very clever variants on the basic idea, such as a bowling-ball game, a game where you can drag your pieces to get 3-in-a-rows, a fruit-machine version, a bobsled-only game, and so on. There are also very interesting "puzzles", which are non-real-time games such as launching zombies against a static plant defense.

One could criticize the "Zen Garden" as a deliberate attempt to give the user a reason to "log in" every hour or two, somewhat like Farmville or Warcraft or other highly addictive games.

For us, the game is an opportunity to sit on the couch with the kids (10 and 6) and enjoy taking turns. I've enjoyed watching the tactical sophistication of my 6 year old develop as he has gone from spending all his suns on immediate needs, to developing an "economy" and thus ensuring a good sun supply later in each episode. I recommend the game very highly.

This is the absolutely the most fun game I've ever played, and that's saying something. This is also the first review I've ever taken the time to write. The entire concept of the game at first is a bit off putting to the average parent and/ or grandparent. Don't let the title stop you from enjoying this creative, fun and wildly challenging ride. The game setting takes place in your own back (and front) yard where your are constantly fending off your neighborhood zombies who he'll-bent to invade your home. These are some of the funniest zombies you'll find anywhere, but make no mistake these guys mean business! Don't worry. You will have equally clever plants with "mad skills" that should protect you, but will they? Play and find out! You will not be disappointed. The gameplay is a blast and all the many characters are so imaginative. You will constantly find yourself challenged and entertained as the levels increase in difficulty. In addition, there are numerous side games that are shorter and equally fun to play. Relax. Have some fun. Kill some zombies.......before they kill you! And here's a word of advice, beware the zombie "Disco Dancer". He may look like one of the " Begees" dancing around in that white jumpsuit, but he's deadly.....you'll see! So much fun you'll forget you're a grown up or a grandmother like me!

This game is, perhaps, getting a little long in the tooth, but that doesn't stop it from being great fun. The Kindle edition is (or was at the time of writing) only 100 yen, and for that provides many hours of entertainment. The game itself is quite simple - grow plants to fight zombies - but it expands this in many ways. There are different plants which all provide different abilities. Some will only be useful on particular levels, some will be staples that are used all the time. There are also many different types of zombies to fight. For example on one level you'll see them wearing buckets on their head to protect themselves, on another level you see them riding pogo-sticks to jump over plants. There are also a huge number of mini-games, each of which would be an app by itself.

If you've never played this before, then try it out, it's great!
