After the extremely successful launch of the Galaxy S3, Samsung has taken a page out of their own playbook for their latest announcement. The Samsung Galaxy Note II will make its way to US markets this November and will be available on all major carriers for its nationwide launch. The handset will be sold on the 4G LTE networks of AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular, making it the second major phone from Samsung this year to be completely cross-carrier.

While the 4G LTE is exciting, the real speed comes from within this smartphone-tablet hybrid (phablet?). The Galaxy Note 2 is the first quad-core to be available stateside thanks to its 1.6GHz Exynos processor. The device also comes packed with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard memory. This all will be needed to power the Note 2’s sizable 5.5-inch HD AMOLED touchscreeen. The world’s biggest smartphone or world’s smallest tablet — it’s kind of a “glass half full or half empty” kind of thing — will also be the first Samsung device to launch with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

Other features of the improved smartphone include a lighter weight, narrower size, increased battery life, and the Roman numeral for ‘2’ after the name. The phone also includes an 8-megapixel camera equipped with Burst Shot for rapid fire photography and 1080p video capabilities, a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, and a redesigned S Pen stylus. The inclusion of the S Pen draws a finer line between the Note 2 and the Galaxy S3, pushing the former closer to the tablet category in terms of functionality. (Read our hands-on Note 2 impressions.)

Samsung is promising a mid-November launch for the Note II, though the official launch date and prices may depend on the carrier. The idea is obviously to have the phone on shelves for the holiday rush, but it will be on the shoulders of the carriers to make this potentially fabulous phablet available.
