Netflix adds support for Motorola Droid and Casio Commando phones

Yesterday, we reported that the LG Revolution will be shipping with Netflix. Well, that’s not the only new Android device Netflix has added support for. The Motorola Droid and Casio G’zOne Commando C771 (both Verizon phones) can now download and enjoy Netflix as well. These devices join the HTC Incredible, HTC Nexus One, HTC Evo 4G, HTC G2, and Samsung Nexus S, which were the first batch of devices Netflix supported when it launched on Android phones about two weeks ago.

We tested the app on the Motorola Droid, but experienced mixed results. Like most apps on the aging Droid, pages load very slow and it is somewhat unresponsive. More than once, the app crashed. However, once we got a video to load, it streamed fine–the video quality looked good for a 3G phone. The app appears to have most basic Netflix features. The home page loads what Netflix believes are the Top Picks for you, and there are tabs for Genres, Search, and your Instant Queue. The app can be accessed via a download from the Android Market and then entering your Netflix username and password; it doesn’t require the odd authentication code process that Netflix on Wii and Xbox do.

Netflix has not laid out precisely which phones it will support next, but we will try to keep you up to date on the service’s progress, which is on a handset by handset basis due to Netflix’s strict DRM device requirements.
