Samsung loses Galaxy Nexus appeal, Apple pays bond, Nexus sales halted

samsung loses galaxy nexus appeal apple pays bond sales halted google playSamsung has failed in its attempt to get a temporary ban lifted on US sales of its Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

The ruling comes a day after the Korean company also failed in a bid to have a similar ban lifted on sales of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet.

Both preliminary injunctions, handed down by the same California court, were the result of lawsuits brought by Apple concerning patent infringement.

The injunction against the Android-powered Galaxy Nexus phone was imposed on Friday and was subject to Apple paying a bond of almost $96 million.

It appears things are moving at a pace now – according to The Verge, the Cupertino-based tech giant has now reached into its pocket, grabbed some loose change and paid up.

And sales of the Galaxy Nexus via the Google Play store were halted later on Tuesday, with a “coming soon” message displayed beside an image of the device (see top image).

However, an AllThingsD report suggests the phone may have been removed from the store not because Apple has paid the bond, but because Google and Samsung are preparing to roll out a software patch – a patch which should mean the device no longer infringes Apple’s ‘universal search’ patent. It’s also possible, of course, that the device has simply sold out.

Samsung will have another shot at lifting the temporary sales ban when the case comes up at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in the coming weeks.
