Samsung teases next-generation smartphone

Samsung still hasn’t gotten around to offering an Android 2.2 “Froyo” upgrade to customers who bought any of the myriad variations on its Galaxy S smartphones, but the company is already getting ready to debut its next big thing. In anticipation of this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung has launched a teaser site announcing “something big is coming,” featuring a graphic of a Galaxy S smartphone.

The site has no technical details, but a glance at Samsung’s offerings at the recent CES show may provide some hints: the company is working on phones for Verizon that use LTE 4G technology with Super AMOLED Plus screens that are intended to offer even higher display quality than the existing Super AMOLED displays on Galaxy S devices. The CES showings also hint that Samsung is getting ready to embrace near-field communications (NFC) technology and put 8 megapixel cameras (with 1080p high-definition video recording capability) in its phones, along with HDMI output for pushing high-def content to HDTVs.

Some industry watchers don’t expect Samsung to embrace LTE technology just yet: there simply aren’t enough carriers offering the service compared to HSPA+. Other industry speculation has Samsung moving to dual-core processors: Samsung’s “Orion” Cortex A9 processor features two processing cores running at 1 GHz, and Samsung had been planning to get the chips to device makers starting the first part of 2011

Samsung just launched a $400 phone in the U.S., and it looks great

A little over a month ago, Samsung announced two new entries in its Galaxy A family — the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35. Both phones made their way to the U.K. and Europe, but we've been left waiting for a U.S. release. Thankfully, that waiting has now come to an end.

As of April 18, the Galaxy A35 is now available for purchase in the U.S. from Samsung.com, Samsung's retail stores, and at "major carriers and retailers." Regardless of where you buy the phone, it's available in your choice of two colors: Awesome Navy and Awesome Lilac. The starting price is a penny shy of $400, putting it well below the Galaxy S24 that launched earlier this year. Interestingly, the Galaxy A55 is not coming to the U.S. at this time.

If you're looking for affordable tablet deals, your search has a good chance of ending with Walmart's offer for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. The 64GB model of the device, which comes with its own S Pen stylus, is available with a $150 discount that slashes its price to just $199 from $349. There's no indication on when the bargain ends, so if you think this is the perfect device for you, you shouldn't hesitate with your purchase if you want to be able to pocket the savings.

The cheaper variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 features a 10.4-inch touchscreen with Full HD resolution, for vivid colors and sharp details, and it's powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor. It's not going to be as fast as the best tablets, but it's more than enough for basic tasks like browsing the internet, checking social media, and watching streaming shows.
