Epic Games soon releasing Infinity Blade for iOS devices

Infinity BladeEpic Games is extremely close to releasing its first game for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The previously dubbed “Project Sword,” now has an official title – Infinity Blade – and some screenshots of the game have been released for a little more detail.

It’s an action, medieval-set RPG (no big surprises there), in which you engage in 3D sword fights. If you want some first-hand experience before the official release, you can explore it in the free app, Epic Citadel.

This is the first game for mobile devices released by the enormously popular Gears of War developer — and specifically for Apple iOS users. So if you don’t use an Apple device, looks like you’re out of luck for the initial launch of the game. On the plus side, there will be a multi-player option available from Apple’s Game Center.

Since the games announcement at an Apple Special Event in September, Epic Games has been hyping up this release. The developer has promised that being a hand-held game is not going to diminish the experience, saying Infinity Blade will be “Taking handheld gaming to new heights,” and describing it as “graphically intense.”

There’s no price or release date yet, but it’s safe to assume the swiftly-approaching holiday season will see its introduction to the App Store.

Why I hope Apple makes iOS 17 as boring as possible

It’s a new year, which means Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference will commence in just a few months now. At that time, we’re definitely going to see the next round of software updates for iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, and possibly, tvOS. On the iPhone and iPad front, this means we’ll be getting iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.

But according to recent reports, this may be a quieter year for software updates for current devices. That’s because it seems Apple is putting most of its attention on the long-rumored mixed-reality headset, which may finally be announced this year.

Apple may do the unthinkable — allow third-party iPhone app stores
App Store displayed on an iPhone 14 Pro against a pink background

Ever since 2008, Apple has only allowed its own App Store on the iPhone. In the past, if you wanted alternative digital storefronts, you’d have to jailbreak your device. But in response to impending regulations from the European Union, Apple may be allowing alternative app stores on the iPhone and iPad in the near future — potentially as soon as iOS 17 in 2023.

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this will be the very first time that Apple will allow third-party app stores on the iPhone. It seems that Apple is already dedicating a “significant amount of resources to the companywide endeavor.”

iOS 16 Supported Devices: Which iPhones are compatible?
iOS 16 lockscreen new look.

Apple has officially announced the release of iOS 16 on September 12, 2022, with the new iPhone software promising several interesting changes. These include an all-new lock screen experience, Live Text in videos, shared iCloud Photo Libraries for families, and more.

Unfortunately, as with any major software release, there comes a time when older devices need to be left off the list. Such is the case with iOS 16: It’s been a long time since Apple dropped support for older iPhones, so the writing has been on the wall for a while. Here are the details.
